THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT "Cheap" turned out to be pretty expensive. Just order a 40 watt, name brand, aluminum framed, crystalline panel. |

Lesson #2:
Northern has no desire to keep customers happy. I pay with a credit card, I expect to be able to return a product after the cheap thermal paper receipt has faded to black. I didn't realize the amorphous units were so dodgy. Thanks for the warning. |

"real" solar panels have gotten to the price I see no reason to consider the harbor freight/northern tool stuff other than for a kid's science project.

I pay with everything with the same cc, but they "could not locate the transaction"... which takes us back to lesson #2.
The 40 watt crystalline panel I order will end up being cheaper than the two 15watt panels I bought two years ago. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

I have never heard of any solar panel that has exhibited this particular problem before. they just do not typically lose capacity like this. very odd.

Decrease in power output is typical with age, but over a period of 15 or 20 years you expect them to still have 60% - 75% of their original capacity. These Northern Tool panels seem to have failed, not aged, and the failure mode appears to have been identical in the two panels. |

I would call or email the corporate office. Can you find the credit card statement or something to show em?

Solar panels do degrade, just should not that rapidly. On quality panels, they have the estimated range of degradation over a determined lifespan of the panel. Solar Degredation |

Solar Degredation My guess is some kind of manufacturing defect. That happens sometimes. The "funny" part of this kind of situation is that often the cheaper units come off the same exact assembly line made exactly the same way as the more expensive ones do. Often the only difference in this kind of thing is the packaging. |
