I posted these up in GD, but this seemed like a good place to put them as well.

Picture quality not great, all taken on my cell phone.

I went out and scouted some water holes for the upcoming dove season.  Plus I got a little 'me' time.

Fire pit - half of an old jet engine transport case.

Plenty of water (like 50,000 gallons) for washing and what not.  Actually really good water when filtered.  Comes out of the tank crystal clear.

Yeah, there's trash there.  The can came home with me, along with other junk.

Little quail family.  Mom, dad, and several little ones.  Gonna be tasty come quail season.

Moonrise over one of the water holes.  Tons of animal tracks.  Deer (probably mulies), coyote, what looked like bobcat, quail, etc.

My little Savage 17HMR at sunset..

Getting the fire going. (yeah, it was still like 100f, but gotta have a fire)

Sunset

Dinner.

Its west of Phoenix, south of I-10 and NW of Maricopa.

It's kind of an oddity.  There's a lot of wilderness (BLM Wilderness) out there and its just a few miles from downtown Phoenix.  Very un-visited.

You guys got some cool pics, thats for sure. Heres a few from a couple adventures me and my buddy took a couple years ago. The time stamp is wrong on his camera, this was in 2006. We are over due for another trip.

Tree day canoe trip down the Rifle River. Had a good time and tested alot of gear out for our next trip. Got our butts chewed for camping outside of campsites though, more becouse they didnt know where we were.

These are from the best trip I was ever on. Its a boat in site up by Alpena. Noone around for miles and completely isolated. We power boated in so we were able to pack a little heavy and it was a good thing too. We burned a ton of calories during the day hiking, fishing and with camp chores. We were there for 5 days and it took us a day and a half to set up a very efficient camp that was well organized and weather proof and had firewood for the week.

Fishing was a bit of a bust with me only catching 4 or 5 sunfish. But we did critque our gear and now have a line up that works well and packs down nice.

The boat in site is of Cooke Dam. Awesome place to camp if you get to the more secluded spots. Theres an Island with a camp site on it too. We were just across form it but popped over to the island and hung out for the afternoon. I can get you the camp site number I think. Im pretty sure I still have that info saved in my favorites

Come on now that's a silly question the camera does not matter.  Would you ask a great artist what kinds of paint brushes he used? a good photo is about the eye of the photographer and with the advent of digital his skills with PS or whatever program he chooses to use to edit his images.

Frickin' beautiful  pics!!!!  Looks like you had a great get away?

Question:  Isn't that the cabin/shelter where that couple was killed years back?  If so, how was your nights sleep?  lol

I am not familiar with any aspects of that shelter except it is named the Icewater Shelter because it has a spring about 95 paces from the shelter and the water is 'ice' cold.  This shelter is on the AT in the Great Smoky Mountains 2.7 miles from Newfound Gap Parking Lot.  My night there was cold b/c I had a 40 degree bag in 20-25 degree temps.  Is this the shelter you were referring to?

Mushroom hunting a couple of years ago with my brother and nephew in northern MI

Morels waiting for the pan

morels dredged if butter and flour

pheasants to go with the morels

don't have pics of finished meal, you pick up a camera instead of a fork around them and you go hungry

nephew is now in Navy and soon will be going to Bahrain, might be a while before the three of us do this again.

Keep safe Kev!!!

Why thank you check out another one

Oh, and in the first pic the further tent..that was the "shower tent"  it had a shower head, a 12 volt pump, and a alligator clips that ran outside so you parked a vehicle beside the tent, and took a bucket of warm water in with you.  It was wonderful to get a real and hot shower when you're in for more than a couple of days at a time.

Agreed. I use a Nikon D70s, a D90, and an old Olympus E-10. Photography is about capturing textures, colors, shapes, and patterns using light. I've been doing it with a 35mm SLR and DSLR cameras for ~30 years. Do something long enough and you're bound to get better at it.
