Are you sure it's Cali and not Louisiana? The whole LSU and Slidell, LA thing says it is LA as in Louisiana.

FYI, it is LEO only mainly because the range location is a LE range and they do not allow non-LEO on range.

Shooters have to have a valid commission with any LE agency in the US. Active, Retired, Reserve, Aux. etc etc

I really think that comment is uncalled for..But ask yourself... How much would you pay to acquire a certain skill set that could one day save your life or the lives of others....

Now back on Topic...

Trainers are like doctors. They have to carry a heavy dose of insurance to cover themselves. Hence the high price of doing business. $200 a day is fair market value.

Dirty, I PM'ed you earlier regarding why I can't go to the HVWM class. And it really sux, cause I had saved up to go.

The LPSO range, that's the one in Walker, right? I went there a couple of years ago for a patrol rifle qual and they have one seriously sweet ass range! We got to run the obstacle course, too. That was the most fun I've ever had at the range.

It didn't hurt that a couple of their SWAT guys brought out the Class 3 stuff!

I think we have a pretty good idea, I was a cop for 7 years and am still a reserve. That said, does your dept. know how much a lawsuit costs for having ill trained Officers? Our prices reflect the cost of doing business (ins., travel, salary, etc.) and a reasonable margin.

Cops couldn't better spend $600 on anything else that will improve their survivability and performance in a dynamic stress situation.

Be safe Fellas.

I agree Drake.

Unfortunately, my dept will not let me do classes with my service weapon. I know, it makes no sense....we can go to the range by ourselves and train on as many dept training days as we want.....but we cant do a "class" that isnt sanctioned by the dept. ANYWAY, with that being said, with or without monetary help from the dept (and regardless of whether I must use my own personal primary and secondary), I will make it to some of these classes eventually.

Yea thats the range. They are expanding to 500 or 600 yards with huge warehouse, hanger, and bunkhouse atm... They love their lil birds...

I don't want to tread on this thread too much. I'll close with this.

Devilpig, if you need a rifle that is not owned by your dept in order to attened training that is no doubt superior to the training they provide hit me up. I'll send you one of my personal rifles on my dime for loan.

I'll tell you what. LE training as a whole is stuck in some sort of twilight zone. This shit is redunkulis! MD is not the end all be all but my Christ. I'm still hearing rumors of weaver, reload with retention and now you can train but not with our rifles. Politics, frustrating.

Be safe brothers.

Very Nice Offer..... I would seize the opportunity... Since we have already strayed off course.. Those are not rumors.. They are facts..

It shows a lot of an individual who carries a firearm for a living to be proficient with it..Always train for that 1%

Drake you might as well come on down and get some brownies..

Drake,

I sincerely appreciate the offer. I have a personal rifle that could be used if necessary. It's just unlikely I will be able to make it to this particular class due to other issues. I have been trying to make it to a MD class for quite some time, as I too am sure it would supplement (or supercede rather) the training I have had thus far. To be honest, if I hadn't been in the Marine Corps I would feel lost with the training I have received to date with the dept., especially in high stress situations.

And you are right, the politics of it all are un-flipping-real sometimes. As a matter of fact, that policy I was referring to was also for my service pistol. I'm allowed to go to a range, my back yard, etc. and shoot the svc pistol until my trigger finger falls off. But if its in a "class" setting its a no-no unless its a sanctioned class by the dept....or at least that's how its been explained to me. To be honest I could rattle off insane policy & procedure all day long. Also, I am at a larger dept in a fairly large city, which makes the politics a bigger deal than in a small town dept....though there is not a huge disparity between the two. But from what Ive seen, the size of the city you work for is directly related to the amount of crap you have to put up with.

Our dept is fortunate to have some very competent instructors in the firearms training division, but they are also held back by policy. Evidently adhering to the state's training standards means adhering to a bunch of ass-backwards standards put in place by people who probably got paid too much to write it and probably had far too little trigger time to be in that position in the first place. I feel that there are a lot of things about this state's firearms training that I PERSONALLY feel are unacceptable....but oh well....I don't have enough rank on my collar to have any say in any of that for now.

I greatly look forward to catching as many of the classes as possible when I can muster up the funds. Believe me, I'd make the drive to LA if the other cards would fall into place.

And once again, thanks for the great offer, it is much appreciated.

I really wish I could do this. My agency has closed any outside training due to budget. Outside training needs prior approval by the Cheif Deputy, and he ain't going to do this, especially since I'm not working patrol. I would do this on my dime, but I simply don't have the dimes in my bank to swing it nor the ammo to feed it.

Scurries over to the DVD player for Art of the Tactical Carbine....

If you only do one a year is $50 a month. Turn off the cable at $50- 120 a month.

I'm out west but will get to one next year where ever it is.
