Federal or Black Hills Gold Medal Match 168 gr. 308 component list

Anyone know the specific components used by Black Hills or Federal when they build their Gold Medal Match 168 gr. 308 ammunition.

I have been told Federal uses, Sierra HPBT Match King (Verified), Federal Gold Medal Primers (Verified), Federal Brass (Makes sense), but what type and what charge weight of powder do they use?

I have been told Black Hills uses, Sierra HPBT Match King (Verified), Winchester Brass (Seems incorrect), CCI #34 primers (makes sense), again what type and what charge weight of powder do they use?

My M1A shoots very well with both and rather than buy and test a bunch of other ammo I would prefer to just build my own given the prices of ammunition at the moment. I have all or most of the components listed, other than powder which I believe may be DuPont IMR 4064.

Thanks for your help.

The .gov M852 load uses 42 grains of IMR 4895 under a 168 SMK.

The new 175 SMK load uses RE-15.

I love BH ammo. As long as you're not going to 1000 you'll be fine. 168's don't like going that far.

175's at 2650 or 155's (Scenars) at 2950 will get you there happily. Both with either Lapua or once fired BH brass, Varget and Federal 210 primers.

I could swear Terry Hahn told me last week that they used Hornady bullets for the 168gr BTHP Match stuff... I could be wrong though. That guy has a lot of good info and he is easy to talk to. He gave me a lot of good info on using moly vs. dry copper. Give Terry a call and ask him yourself. He will tell you.

For years and years while the M-14 ruled at Camp Perry "the load" was 41.5 gr. of 4895 in LC Match brass, Federal 205M primer with a 168 gr. Sierra bullet. The common wisdom being that if your gun wouldn't shoot that load then it was broken. Federal and Black Hills likely will not make their powder type and charge weight public knowledge (can you say liability?) and I would be leery of any individual who claims to be able to tell the powder type by look, smell, feel, etc. Good luck and good shooting.
