Yesterday I took the AMOK Edged Weapons Combat-1 taught by Tom Sotis at Martial Arts Principles in Keene, NH. I've never taken any formal edged weapons training before and, based on what I've read about Mr. Sotis and AMOK!, I thought is would be foolish to pass up the opportunity, especially with the class being so close to home.

The day started off with free form sparring, which having never done before was interesting as well as eye opening. We then broke that down into smaller and smaller pieces. This is the opposite of most other martial arts, but I found that things started to "click" for me fairly quickly. There was a LOT in information in this 3 hour class. It is pretty physical and I'm pretty sore today, I can only inagine what one of the 2 day seminars is like.

I have to admit I was suprised to see as many people in the class as there was, several of who I knew from work.

I found Mr. Sotis is an energetic and enthusiastic instructor and would recommend this class for any interested in edged weapons use. Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend the Edged Weapons Combat-2 in November due to my work schedule.

AMOK has some good stuff. I'm currently training with the AMOK group at JBB, Iraq under Gus Reina.
