I'm pretty excited just because I havent done anything fun since January. I'm going to IDPA qualify sTurday with both my 1911 and g23. Whichever I feel more comfortable with I'll shoot the match that follows. Err I just realized I will be more confident with tbe 1911 because I have a limited supply of 40 cal.

I'll be shooting at the East Alabama Gun Club, will be sure to report my experience. This shoot will determine for me weather I want to put out the cash to start shooting uspsa. I know practice practice practice, I just cant afford anymore holsters unless I intend to use them.

Your 1911 and carry gear is perfectly good to go in USPSA. You don't need any extra money. Maybe a couple of mags and pouches, but other than that you're fine.

EAGC is a great club as a lot of my teammates shoot there. Keep an eye out for Mark Kauder and tell him Rich in California sent you and please forward a 'hi' from me.

Qual Match: Shot CDP, qualified MM.
IDPA Match: All in all I got 3-5 procedurals, final scored will be posted online sometime soon and I'll let ya know. Keep in mind this is my first IDPA experience some of the rules bit me in the ass, I did a few re-shoots and mag dumps toward the end I didn't know wasn't allowed.

Stage 2 This is just one stage, I don't think the RO noticed my boo-boo on the reload right before the final shot. I started with one mag in gun, and two on belt. My barney mag was in back pocket. I dropped two empty mags and forgot about the last full one on my belt and went after the one in my back pocket. I have no idea why I tried to reload using an empty mag.

Running set-up is two 8 round Wilson mags in double leather galco, SA MC operator, g-code holster. One of my brand new Wilson ETMs jammed i'm not sure why, I popped it out and whacked it on the side of a prop and put it back in.
stage 3
Stage 4
Stage 5
Stage 6

congrats on your first match, Iam a little rusty on the rules, but where does it say that you cant shoot a target to try and improve your score unless there is a limit that you can shoot a certain target. And is I recall you can only have 3 mag, one in the gun and two on the belt. some guys will keep them in their pockets but you can still only have 3.

Vickers count, he said we could only attempt to engage three times (RO said no reshoots; to me this meant no do overs. Not you can't fire more than 3 rounds to neutralize). I thought I may have missed and shot an extra, going over the vickers count I think it is. The 4th mag was used to put a round in battery, then swapped out so i would have 8+1; When i couldn't find a 3rd full mag I reached for that partial 4th mag just because I only had a shot left, you can't see it from the rear in the vid but I drew two empty magazines attempting to reload.

Your right on the rules though, I just didn't know them, misunderstood or got excited, mostly the last two.

Studying the definitions will probably help me out a lot for next months match, I want to try uspsa in the future.

Don't feel bad. I shot my first IDPA today as well. Had a blast and sucked ass the whole time. My first stage was pathetic. I rushed the shots, missed a swinger for a -10. I only had one screw up on my part and I knew it as I was doing it. We had to start backs to the target, turn and draw. Well I drew as I was turning, realizing as I was clearing the holster the RO was to my left I kept the muzzle down and drawn in close to my body. He warned me when it was over and I told him I knew I screwed up as I did it and all was good. It is a very addicting sport for sure.

Nice job for your first match. One tip is to stop pointing your gun straight down when you move. Keep it up in your vision. You waste time having to raise the gun to each target, plus you came really close to sweeping your feet a couple times.

Nice runs, someone really put some time into the setups on those stages, looks like a great match to shoot.

Thanks, thats the result of bad training lol lots of ready up drills I'll work on that too. To be honest I was going for a natural site alignment most of the time I never consciously used the sights, I was more focused on the smoothness of draw and reloads, which never went smoothly. Mostly because I almost never did my reload in the same fashion. not dropping my sight picture would definitely save me some time.
Something I noticed was how easy the gun was to control, and make accurate shots even if it was near to my face. Some shots I pulled without having my arms fully extended (maybe 1/4 or 1/2 way), the muzzle flip felt weird but my shots were spot on.

1. I need to drop empties rather than retain them 2. Draw the spare mags in the same order every time. 3. Retain partial mags in the same fashion every time. I was stuffing mags everywhere and pulling them out of everywhere and sometimes I grabbed empties so it slowed me down a lot. 4. I didn't pay any attention to my grip on the pistol, but i'm willing to bet I didn't hold it the same way every time.

First column is Match Score. That is the time from each stage added up along with any penalties. That is how the final rankings are done, lower number is better.

Next are penalties, first is PD (Points Down) which are your hits on target. 1 point down for each outside of the center circle, 3 in the far outside edge, and 5 for a miss. That is the total number from all stages. NT (Non-Threat) Those are for hitting the targets with hands or other designated you aren't supposed to shoot. PE (Procedurals) are penalties for not following the course description or rules. FN (Failure to Neutralize) means you did not get enough points on a target to consider it neutralized.

Next are the total time for each stage and the penalties on that stage in parenthesis. Each penalty point is worth 1/2 a second. Those are already added into the stage time here. So your raw time which was called out after you shot the stage has these penalties added to get your stage time.
