 M&P 9Pro for IPSC

I posted a thread a while back stating that I was about to get into IPSC shooting and was wondering which Glock to get, the 34 or 35. I came across the Smith M&P 9Pro and was wondering if this would be a better option for me due to the fact that I am a left-handed shooter and that weapon seems to be "leftie friendly". I would like to get you guys opinions on that gun for production class. thanks

I was ROing at the Double Tap Ranch this last March and made some observations about M&Ps vs Glocks. There were M&Ps everywhere but Glocks had diminished to the guys who were in upper classes and wouldn't switch like David S. who shoots for Glock. I saw M&Ps in LTD as well and my girlfriend shot her new 4.5" 9mm M&P as minor in LTD but with 23 round mags....
She had a chance to shoot either a Glock or an M&P as I had both but prefered the M&P which is what she got for Christmas along with a ton of ammo. I carry a Glock at my present duty assignment and would switch to the M&P but I would be the only one around so I just stay in common with others and carry the Glock.....for now.
The M&P is pretty good for steel, IPSC, or IDPA....

The guys we have shooting M&Ps - both in Production and Limited - absolutely love them.

The 9Pro is ideally set up for practical competition - not only does it sport a longer slide and barrel - a la G34/G35 - but it also comes with a set of sights perfectly suited to practical shooting (FO front / black blade rear) and sports a slicked-up trigger out-of-the-box.

I'm dumping my glocks & 1911's after my fling with M&P's... My carry gun is now my 'fun' gun.
My first was the 9L.
The M&P can have a better trigger, custom grip size (in the box), shorter trigger reset, better frame to slide ratio/angle, reliable, light weight, holds a lot of bullets, in-expensive and very accurate.
The day I got mine I was shooting my custom 1911 lightwgt triggered splits with the stock 9L. I took it back to the 50yd line and got 100% hits on steel 10x10 plates. All I could say was holy sh!t and WTF - I couldn't blv it was a stock pistol.
I just recently got the trigger tweaked and all I can say is wow.
I'm now an M&P addict with an expanding collection. Make the leap and don't look back.

I had a Pro, great gun and it worked great for IPSC type stuff.

I sold it because S&W is a bunch of assholes that won't sell spare parts to civilians.

Thanks, think I may try one out. With the LE discount, I can get the PRO for $500 and the 9L for $471. Thinking I should go with the PRO just for the minor price difference.......

The Pro is both USPSA and IPSC production legal, as well.

They're great guns - if I was buying a striker fired gun, the M&P would be it.

I bought a PRO for my daughter due to the interchangable backstraps. This gun is really nice. The "custom" trigger job sucked. That was the only thing I was disapointed in. Im sticking with my G34 personally. I just like it a little more.

The pro does not have a "custom" trigger job it has a better sear but I think everything else is the same.

I've switched from Glock to M&P. I've shot Glocks for the last 2.5 yrs. Made GM with my G34 las year. I actually shot an M&P when I first started shooting Production until I had an extraction issue....I just dumped it and stuck with Glock. Now.....after 133k rounds through my G34 its pretty much wore out and I chose to by a new M&P Pro and not another Glock.
I could shoot the M&P much better than the Glock back then. I just wasn't too sure of it being a new model gun and the reliability due to the small problem I had back then. But I've decided to give it another shot since Smith seems to be in it for the long haul.
The Pro has a machined sear with a shorter reset and crisper break as opposed to the MIM sear of the 9L and other duty models. The Pro also has a much better set of competition sights. One thing I did not know that I found out the other day from Dan Burwell about the 9L was the slide weight is 2 ounces lighter on the 9L as opposed to the Pro.
If I would have known that....it would have been a much bigger influence on me to buy the 9L. The Pro feels a little sluggish to me in slide speed running the same loads I ran in the G34. So I upped the charge 3 tenths of a grain for an increase of 4 power factor to 136. It feels better but still not what I am used to so I may take it to 140. With the 9L being 2 ounces lighter this would not be as big of an issue.

But....I really like the M&P

LOL

check Brownells and Midway

I called S&W right after I got mine and tried to order extra sears, "uh I don't know if legal is gonna let us sell those anymore"

WTF?!?

I think it's a great production pistol. I hold some after market guys start making trick sears.
