how to trim a lead weight to fit into the buttstock

Hey guys I just got one of those lead weights for the butt stock but it doesn't quite fit in. If I were to pound the back of the weight it would probably fit in, but then I am afraid I won't be able to get it out. I thought about placing it in a vice and then using a sawzall I would carefully try to trim it until it fit snugly, but not too loose,. Is this the right way to go about it? Any advice or suggestions on how to trim it down? I want to be able to remove it if I find I don't like the extra weight.
Thanks,
Mav

I just used a hacksaw to trim it down.

Did you take the buttplate off? I bought one that wouldn't quite fit through the door, so I took the buttplate off and it dropped in. If needed you can trim it slightly with a utility knife, or whatever you have handy.

It is very easy to cut, trim, file, melt, sculpt, etc. It also cold works very easy like in a blacksmith's technique.
Just protect yourself from the fumes if you use a torch and clean up your tools from the debris if you cut.
Sounds like you are within Dremel distance now and small cuts won't really affect your balance in any significant way.
You can use a hot glue gun to "liquid shim" her into place if you get slack when it goes in. That isn't hard to break out if you want to go in reverse.

Cut off the small end. You can saw, but you'll make less harmful dust by using a wood chisel and a hammer.

As I read your suggestion I smacked myself in the head and said "well why didn't I think of that?" One of the screws was a little hard to loosen because RRA had it screwed down tight with some red locktite. It also would have been nice if they used some screws with a phillips head as oppsed to a straight head, but oh well. I managed to get them both loose and I removed the whole buttplate and sure enough like you said it dropped in with a perfectly snug and flush fit and I didn't have to cut it or anything. I was also able to take it back out with no problems. I then re-assembled and put a little blue locktite back on the one screw and it locked the plate back in nice and snug. Thanks again for your help and to everyone else-thanks too for your suggestions...
Cheers,
