I am working on gettin a complete Ray Vin set as a good friend gave me a RV head. But for shooting with my sons I'd like the old timey (but still timely and effective) scope and stand. I love the adjustment knobs. I have looked in the EE and in a couple of other forums to no avail - anyone know how to refine my search? Thanks!

For what you'll pay for an M49, you can get better for the same or cheaper.

not the M49, just the M15 tripod.

Sir, I really don't know what you mean by "old timey" in terms of scopes and stands. While I do recognize the M49 type scopes as something our military used to use I don't know what an M-15 scope stand is. Champion shooters supply still sells the old Freeland style scope stands that were very common thirty and forty years ago. I still have one that I bought in the '70s. Check out the Champion Shooter's Supply web site, they may have just what you want. HTH, 7zero1.

which CC scope stand is closest to the M15? wanting one that has a fine screw thread control for elevation and also for windage/left right control besides just cranking it around.

I don't know the nomenclature of the old GI stuff, but have spent plenty of time around it. The Freeland "Saddle head" is the closest thing I think you will find. All of the Freeland mounts are the same, really - the difference is how the scope attaches (with the saddle head just clamping around the scope, like if you were using an old M49).

Freeland makes bipod and tripod stands, eachg available with three different scope mounting options. Their tripod stand is wide, not a small tripod like I seem to recall on the old GI stuff (which I never liked anyway - there's a reason so many used the lead weights.)

I hope this helps -

Champion's Choice still sells Freeland scope stands with saddle heads and zoom heads. They are relatively inexpensive.

Scope Stand

They also sell a house brand of spotting scope. The 12-50X50mm version has a 45 degree eyepiece and costs only about $100.
