I have an 18" with intermediate length gas system and I couldn't be happier with it. I prefer the 18" over a 16" gun for the recoil reduction.

OK - cool. Have you had a chance to test various loads? The one thing I would love to know is how much does barrel heat effect accuracy. Considering its thinner than the "usual" barrel profiles you'd see being used for 3 gun. I was originally looking at the Recon profile.

Interested in the same info as well because I too am looking at the SPR barrel and the NST lightweight. Would the barrel life be any different between the SPR and the Lightweight? Also what is a normal barrel life for the stainless barrels?

The 16" barrel is more than capable to handle 3 gun duties within 300 yards. Rob used a 16" at the LT Multi Gun and did very well on the long range stage with that 16" SS NST profile.
You will get more velocity with the 18" over the 16" SS Barrel.
Between Romero and I, we have over 8K (or more) rounds each on our NST profile barrels from last years (2010) barrels and I am using my same barrel again to see how long I can go before I shoot it out, so far no loss in accuracy.
The longest shot we have seen in 3 Gun this past season was approx 425. The barrel and the NST profile are more than capable to handle that task well. Your not going to have any issues with it. Noveske's reputation is built on his stainless barrels.
We check zero and do some shooting out at Gunsite Hills in GA before majors, that range goes out to 700, the barrels reach and make hits on steel without issue out to those distances all day long. Its unlikely you will see shots beyond 400+ at most major 3 gun events, but incase you do, the barrels can do it so long as you do your part.
Regardless whether you go 16" or 18" SS barrel, they are more than capable to handle the shooting task at hand, it comes down to the guy behind the trigger.

As per Joel at Noveske –– " in terms of accuracy life –– the Noveske SS barrels will hold sub MOA until 10 to 12k with proper care , then start to open up groups gradually till 15k . After that the barrel will begin to perform like a standard service barrel. " He was speaking specifically about the Noveske built barrels and not about SS barrels in general. He went on to elaborate that Noveske's materials and build process allow for a stronger- than- industry- standard that give their barrel an increased service life over other manufacturers stainless barrels.
I hope I related the true intention of his explanation to me. Joel is very professional and strides to clearly explain in detail.

Well after reading cold's response and yours I went ahead and bought the 18" nst upper. I already have a 2 noveskes and one lower has the sd3gun trigger in it so this should match up nicely!

Hey –– I'm glad you chimed in. Couldn't ask for a better source of info on the matter than the guys who are Team Members. I appreciate the great details. I have since decided that I'm going 18". The extra 4 oz and 2" length are nothing compared to the benefits of the longer barrel.
Thanks.

Normal 3gun use is not going to heat up your barrel to the point that accuracy is degraded. Enjoy your Noveske. You'll be happy with the 18". Another added benefit is the extra velocity you'll have over the 16" counterpart.
