Muzzle Break
What are you guys running? Who do you think makes the best ? I do not what a JP
I will be running a 16 inch barrel
I am assuming you are asking for competition purposes?
I think the most effective comp on the market to be the SJC Titan. I've literally tried all of them and then even more that I have made. It has not been topped in my opinion. And I run it on a 16 and 17" barrel. But you will hear many different opinions here.
The best comps are going to be the longer comps(3-3.5" x 1" diam) that take advantage of the maximum size limitations set forth by the most popular rule sets in the game.
The Benny Hill Rolling Thunder is another comp that works extremely well. I'd rate it the number two most effective comp available.
The JP Tank brake used to be known as the most effective out there. But has since been surpassed by the Titan and Rolling Thunder.
All comps work to some extent. Some more effective on certain platforms than others.
the fsc556 is a good compromise for a multi purpose gun.
I run a Rolling Thunder on the new rifle. I have a JP-BC (Bennie Cooley) comp on my "ol' reliable" 18" rifle. The zombie hunter has a Surefire brake on it ('cause when I visit America I can put a can on it).
In the end, they're pretty similar with tops (to me) being: Rolling Thunder, JP-BC, SJC Titan, Surefire and DPMS/Miculek (also the best bang for the buck at like $30).
Rich
One thing I want to mention about the JP/Bennie Cooley comp is that they tend to work extremely well on the JP rifles. The JP CTR rifle is a finely tuned system and a rather impressive system at that. Most due in part to how JP is able to balance and tune the operating system on his rifles and it makes the JP/BC comp seem to perform extremely well. I don't think the JP/BC comp is anywhere near as effective as the Rolling Thunder or SJC Titan when just comps are being compared on a standard rifle. The performance of the JP/BC comp ranks pretty low by my comparison to many other comps when not used on a JP CTR rifle.
I really like the Surefire brake for its compact design. If your looking for the most effective compact comp/suppressor mount, its hard to argue with the Surefire.
I tend to be very critical of many things in performance. One of which is performance of compensators on competition rifles as a lone addition for improving the tracking and recoil characteristics of a rifle.
00 has got it right as usual.....I'm a Titan fan
Thanks guys i will give the Titan a try
I really like the SJC Titan in the youtube videos.
I have one at home but have no barrel to put it on yet.

I have a Titan on my M1A. It makes me giggle every time I pull the trigger. They work very well.
I use a brake...OPS, Inc

The 308 Titan works just that much better than the 223 version. Pretty damn impressive.

That's neat. I always knew 7.62 suppressors had a great effect on 5.56 but I didn't know the same held true for comps. Good stuff! Whoops

Are you sure? The .223 Titans are threaded 1/2-28 and the .308 version is threaded 5/8-24.
That comment got totally dicked up because I used the word "on" instead of "than".
It was supposed to say:
The 308 Titan works just that much better than the 223 version.
+1 on the Titan.
Damn impressive!!!
I use a Titan for my 3GUN rifle as well. Very effective at controlling recoil. I'd like to see how the Surefire and Battle Comp compare to it.
Anyone here use a Battle Comp?

Anyone here use a Battle Comp?
I have a Battle Comp, FSC556, something similar to the Titan and a Miculek break, by far the best in compensation is the titan followed by the Miculek, the FSC556, then the Battle Comp.
I don't really understand all the hype for the BC, I bought one after reading how great this break was, put it on and after I shot it I was disappointed, I like the FSC556 much better for my fighting rifle.
Didn't notice any less concussion differences between the FSC and the BC either.
Cant comment on the Surefire.
I use the Miculek comp. The main reason is that it's only $25.
Waiting for Spikes's to release their Dynacomp.
I like the surefire because of the reduced noise as compared to other comps. The Titan is the flattest shooting. I just couldnt get used to being blasted in the face...

I'm looking forward to seeing it release! 02NBMFormula
and I will be putting it to the real test in 6 major matches this year, we'll see how it stacks up.
I have the SJC TItan on my 3-gun upper and the Battlecomp on my class gun. The performance difference is noticeable, although the SJC is considerably louder. Because of this, I'm thinking about switching back to my MSTN QC brake for my 3-gun upper.
I'm a big fan of Benny's Rolling Thunder comp

Interesting...most of the big comps have the huge baffles on them which this one is clearly without. I'd like to see how it stacks up.

LOL
I've used a Miculek for a couple of matches now. It is my first and only brake. It works as designed and as advertised. I am very happy with the results. My rifle has very little recoil and no muzzle rise.

Looks a little too bouncy. I suggest a Titan.

Why my two main competition guns (5.56 and .308) have Rolling Thunder. The SJC works great but get in a tight area or against a wall
and all that blast smacks you in the face. I quit shooting one last Sunday because of all the shit blowing into my eyes
even around my glasses. Same exact conditions with my Rolling Thunder and no blast in the face.
The Miculek while not the best, works well and is the best bang for the buck. On a SBR, it works as well as any other comp I have tried.

TWICE!!!!
I haven't shot with a lot of comps but a friend of mine has a Rolling Thunder on his rifle and it certainly shoots flat. (18 in with rifle gas.)
I have a JP Cooley comp on my 20in w/rifle gas and it shoots very flat. I am running the JP lightened carrier, adjustable gas block, and my buffer weight is the same as the JP buffer. As long as I don't get greedy turning the gas down, it is very reliable and man does that thing shoot soft.
The JP doesn't seem to hit me in the face.
I tried out a comp by a new manufacturer who is not well known. No discernable difference in recoil but good lord that thing was deafening and put so much gas in my face, I wanted goggles on. It is history.
Anyone shooting a break or comp on a piston gun and if so which one?
I run a Titan Comp on a LMT MRP Piston rifle.

Is anyone running the PRI QC Brake anymore ? I remember this being the cats ass back in the day. Does it now suck, or is it just not the flavor of the month now? As for "quiet control" –– does it lessen the pressure wave hitting the operator?

J223...
I just changed over from the SJC Titan to the MSTN QC brake so I could lighten the front end, thereby making it easier to swing. Well worth it.

You have any range time with it? If so, can you share what differences you noticed between the two?
Thanks.
J2223...
Yes, just shot a 3-gun match this weekend with it. Recoil control is only slightly worse than the SJC Titan but noticeably less blasty-blast noisy. It made a noticeable difference in the speed that I could move the rifle between targets.
You can see some of the rifle action here on Stage 1 (at the beginning) and Stage 4 (at 4:23):

Nice Video . So are you saying that the PRI comp is as good as the Titan in terms of overall performance minus the pressure wave hitting the operator?
J223..
Yes, I would recommend it. I perceive the recoil differences between them to be small.
I've got an AAC NSM Brake on my 3 gun AR, its tiny and works very well. You may want to check it out.
