Feeding the ar
Ok been debating what to get for 55gr ammo for 3gun. I'm looking at xm193 or regular Federal American eagle. What
do you think and why. Is the extra velocity worth it? This will be the go to ammo for 300yrd and in. I've finally
realized that Kurt Miller is right. I don't reload rifle so that's out. So let's hear it.

If you shoot it enough to know your hold overs for any distance that you will shoot, it doesn't matter provided both are equally reliable.
If you are talking velocity as it pertains to trajectory, you can adapt to either.
If you are worried about knocking over the long range steel, you need to get some 69gr bullets if you want to see a difference.
I shoot a plenty hot (but definitely safe with regard to pressure) handload with a 55gr bullet. I haven't had any issues.
I really should work up a 69gr load for longer stuff.
Also:
What are you referring to Kurt Miller being right about? No details in your post.
He most likely is right. He is an excellent shooter.
While I have not shot 3 gun with my AR yet. I have experimented with ammo for when I do. And like Winchester 5.56 not to be confused with thier .223. Its marked Q3131. And I have gotten 1.5 to 2 MOA with it. Should be good for plates out to 300. I was shooting clay birds with it out to 100 today without any trouble. It's fairly inexpensive. I'm shooting it out of a 16" 1/9 Bushmaster barrel
Kurt is right meaning he only shoots 55gr stuff out of his ar. Or so he says

. I've been running 75gr Privi at long range and it works well. Just trying to find a cheaper solution for more practice.
I'd shoot the one that is more accurate.
the difference in accuracy should be small enough where I'd end up shooting the cheaper one. I never been to a 3-gun event where you needed sub moa ammo. 2 moa will work just fine.
Bigger matches maybe a different story.
sono, i use my handload, Nosler 55 v-max, for anything over 200 yds and what ever I can get cheap for the up close stuff. I shoot lots of Silver Bear and Wolf, never had a problem.
Are you able to START reloading? You end up with better quality ammo for a fraction of the price of factory ammo. The only good reason not to reload is if you honestly don't have ANY spare time to do it.

This.... not to try to change the topic into a reloading thread, but even a simple single-stage press would allow you to get into rifle relaoding to allow you to make good ammo that suits your rifle for not a lot of money.
