Some people make me laugh with their ignorance

Background. I have owned my property for over 10 years, My family moved out here 5 years ago. 1 week after I purchased it I built a gun range. 50 yds, 20 foot berm surrounded by stacked tires on the side. So I have been shooting there for over 10 years. Not once has the Sheriff dept. been called.

I have been able to introduce countless 1st time shooters, living near Fort Bragg and Pope Air base, our church always has people moving in and moving out. Have had several families when they got here did not own a single firearm, yet when their tour here was up owned several, sometimes even EBRs. Several children have fired a gun for the first time on my range.

Have been able to introduce people to suppressors, SBRs, and machine guns(don't own the machine gun was a friends) and generally just have a lot of fun teaching people and shooting.

We had revival meeting at church this past week and 2 of the preachers were young men. The only semi auto they have fired was a .22lr.
Brought them over about 3 o'clock Thursday, and they fired a couple of 9mm handguns, .45 1911, M4 and AK47 about an hour or hour and a half. also a buddy and his 16year old boy and my 16 year old boy. had a great time and the boys learned some stuff

Yesterday an older gentleman comes buy the house around 4:30. I was out hunting with those same 2 16 year olds in another part of the county. The gentleman tells my wife that he is filing a complaint with the Sheriffs dept. and getting a petition together for everyone in the neighboring area to sign to make me stop. He would not leave his name or contact info and would not take my number. Of course he will not get anywhere with it, I called the county magistrate and gave her the relevant info and she told me I had nothing to worry about, which I already new, was more to put my wife at ease.

But the funny part was he told my wife that we were shooting too long and too late in the afternoon, an hour and a half is just too long to target shoot. Also complained about automatic weapons fire.which of course is funny since I don't have a machine gun.

I am thinking of pulling out my 1919 this afternoon and ripping off a couple of hundred rounds

You should try to be a good neighbor. At least find out when your shooting is annoying them the most and try to avoid shooting then. If you try and still can't make them happy or at least happier, then give it up and shoot however much you want.

It's far better to get along with your neighbors instead of fighting with them.

I actually agree with your sentiment in principal, however I have no idea who the gentleman is or where he lives. I would have loved to sit down and speak to him and try to work something out, but since he would not give his name and would not take my number so we could speak, he is clearly not interested in working anything out. He wants me to stop completely. If he wanted to he would have left his number and asked my wife to please give him a call. He did not do that.

I am as courteous as can be expected. I do not shoot before 10 am and very rarely after dark, if I do shoot after dark I am usually using my suppressor and subsonic ammo, so unless he was within 200 feet he is not going to here a thing.

If your close enough to Bragg to introduce new shooters to the hobby than I wonder how this fellow feels about the artillery I wouldnt worry about him. I did have a neighbor call the cops on me for bump firing an AK a few months before I joined the Army, the sheriffs came and we waited for the ATF to get there, but thats another story. If he didnt have the common sense to leave contact info than I wouldn't worry about him.
