Florida Non Resident CCW
Can someone point me in the right direction please
Any idea on where to obtain sufficient "training" on Long Island?
Take a look at the NRA website for the basic pistol class schedule:
http://www.nrainstructors.org/searchcourse.aspx
or call Mitchell Field for info.
As part of my vacation in February I went to the regional office in Tampa and applied there. They do the livescan and photo. You bring the proof of training and money order and fill out the short application in the office. In and out of the office in 35 minutes. I received the permit in 13 days.

An Arfcom member set up the class that I took at South Shore Sportsman.
Just take a free
DEC Hunter Ed course. There are several upcoming courses in NC and SC.

So I send them a copy of that certification and the app and fingerprint fee, and that's it?

Yes. The application is online and unless you plan on getting scanned in FL you'll need to request the fingerprint cards.

Thanks guys. I printed the app and requested the fingerprint cards. I don't think I'll be going to FL before they arrive, so mail will be the way to go.

if you request the app directly from them, it comes with a tracking number that you can track your license with, obv.

That's too easy. I really need to send this out ahead of my next trip down there.

I printed it online and got a T-number as well, which is what's used to track the application. Once the fingerprint card comes in I'll be good to go.

FL added that feature to the online app awhile back. They actually want to make the process as painless as possible which is an unheard of concept to many county pistol licensing agencies in NY. The only thing FL needs to do is allow LiveScan companies in NY to submit your prints.

That would make things easier.
It says to send a check, but will they accept a USPS money order?
They accepted a USPS money order when I applied in person-forgot my checkbook home.

At some point they will have to accept LiveScan prints as it's getting more difficult to find an agency that will do rolled prints. A USPS MO is OK.
I received the permit in 13 days.
I'm actually waiting on my Florida license now. I sent my stuff in about 5 weeks ago, just tried calling the automated number and it says my stuff is still being processed, and I should expect processing to take 6-8 weeks (total, not more).
Thanks for the help guys, much appreciated.
About the requirement: "1 photograph taken within 30 days. Write your name and DOB on the back in felt pen. "
Are there any guidelines for the kind of photograph needed? Must it be a professional one? For the NYPP they required 2 passport photos of a particular size. Is anything too big or too small for this photograph?
I thought I saw the size requirements for the pics somewhere on the website.....
I want to say 1.5" to 3" but don't quote me."Photograph’s outer dimension must be larger than 1-1/4” X 1-3/8”."
I'll see if I can find it.
ETA Page 7 of the PDF has the photograph and fingerprint guidelines; they say passport size color and list a minimum size.
