Moving to NY from IL

OK, read as much as I could without making my head explode. I have a few questions I have that I'm hoping you guys/girls can answer. It may be more advice/suggestions than anything.If someone had a few very evil AR's that have collapsible stocks, threaded flash hiders, pistol grips, bayonet lug, etc. Seems like it would be cheaper to just buy a $700 preban lower. By the time you purchase a few A2 stocks, send the barrells off to get pinned and swap out a muzzle break, etc, its seems it would be a wash. Do you think you need to have a preban lower for each eviil upper or is having one enough to be in compliance. The evil uppers would never meet the evil lower. Would that work?

Also, is there thread here or a site somewhere that helps facilitate trades between post ban and preban items such as mags and lowers? Besides searching hera for "preban" theres not much.

ETA: Looking at Orange county. Hows the process for CCW there?

I would invest in a pre-ban lower, hands down the way to go. No issues with having multiple uppers for a single lower; however, I would make sure any post-ban lowers have fixed stocks on them and remain in post-ban status. Orange County is not bad as far as County's go... just don't bring any handguns into the state until you obtain your pistol permit.

I agree that the $700 preban is the way to go. There have been some Eagle Arms Coal Valley lowers in the EE that to me are worth the few hunderd dollar premium. Time to also stock up on those preban magazines. There are a bunch of sellers that prefer to sell preban items to persons in Ban states (NY, CT, NJ).

+1 on making sure not to bring hand guns into the state until you get your permit squared away. When I moved back to NY from TN I had to leave my handguns with a friend, then get my permit, and then pay FFL fees out the nose to get the firearms back into NY state legally.
In orange county you should not have a problem getting a CCW.

Having two or three different pre ban configured uppers for your one preban lower with different configurations (optics/handgards/lights) is pretty easy to explain why you have them. I dont know that I would have three extra post ban lowers with no upper attached and convieniently have three pre ban configured uppers sitting the closet .

Thanks for the replies everyone...Lots to take in, and looks like I'll be spending lots of dough getting NY legal. Making my final decison on the move tomorrow (job offer) so the move probably wont start for a month or two. Sounds like i'll have to find a perm address and 4 friends quick if I want to expedite the CCW license. Thanks again
