Looking for a Gunsite, Thunder Ranch type school in the North East. Is there anything comparable over this side of the country?

Hi Sit,

The only "schools/facilities" like what you suggest in the NE are:

SIG ACADEMY

SMITH & WESSON ACADEMY

Best of luck,

Chris

Thanks. Is Blackwater or Xe still offering courses, I can't seem to find anything on their website?

Sit, since Chris won't toot his own horn (too good of a guy to do that), I'll toot it for him. I suggest you take some MDTS classes. Very professional instruction, very useful techniques taught. He's not flashy, and its definitely not what i'd call "ballistic masturbation". Each round fired serves a purpose. I'll certainly be taking more classes in the future. I suggest you do the same.

I also recommend Chris, Taken several classes, all great, he usually gets to different parts of the state for classes. What area of Ny are you located?

Another recommendation for Chris at MDTS. I'm currently hosting him for 2 classes this summer in New Paltz, which is pretty close to Westchester. They are listed on his schedule page.

Mas Ayoob's LFI
SIG Academy

I have trained with Chris Fry - he is the cat's meow. I've also recommended more than 10 folks to seek out Chris.

Even so, SIG Academy offers some of the best comprehensive training on the (north) east coast. They now have a gazillion ranges, in addition to a 1000 yard range, a shoot house and courses on shooting in/out of vehicles.

Nothing like having a top notch outfit like MDTS based right here in NY. The carbine classes I've taken were all safe, informative, challenging and fun. Highly recommended.

Oh no, how could we have forgotten you!! But i agree, Mark and Luke and all the guys that have helped Chris at Classes are top Notch.

To Original Poster, there is a NE Shooters Conference(2.5 days) in NH, late in April, I guess its a little taste of a few different classes. They have some big names there, including Chris.

I've been to Thunder Ranch (Oregon) and Gunsite several times.
These were great training experiences but were quite expensive.
As many others have already mentioned, you simply can't go wrong with Chris Fry's stuff.
His instruction is on a par with the big named schools at a cost that won't bankrupt you.

I must agree, MDTS would be nothing without the guys who help me out as well as the many members here at ARFcom who are quick to lend a helping hand when asked or not. I am truly grateful to have such good friends! Thanks guys.

I am looking forward to the next Carbine course here on LI. My buddy shomestyle has been to a few of his courses and has had nothing but positive things to say.
