Yeah, I figured as much but thought I'd ask anyway. Camp Smith was really ideal for WC, OC, RC, PC and DC and northern NJ.

I did this course a couple years ago. If you want to shoot service rifle and want to learn how to accurately apply your AR15 service rifle with sling at distance you will take away some great skillsets.

I'm still amazed after decades of shooting at how many long time gun owners have no idea how to use a sling to aid their shooting. Become one of the 1% of riflemen who can hit the black at 600 yards without a sandbag, bipod, and 24X scope!

Quick question, I have an A2 style rifle except for the round free float tube. It has a swivel and turner sling already, but is not strictly service rifle. Kosher for this course, or should I check the "need loaner' box? Thanks.

I can't answer if they'll let you shoot your non complying rifle. Not sure what forend you have. If it's the standard rack rifle A2 handguards (non freefloat, two halves) you meet service rifle, the A2 looking freeflat meets service grade. If you have a basic old school rack weapon you're fine. If you have some aftermarket erector set forend you won't meet service grade specs. You could still shoot in match rifle but for SAFS I don't think they do match rifle. The instructors understandably want everyone doing the same thing. A great group. They were quite serious about service rifle shooting as it's own entity and sport.

If you plan on shooting reloads they won't let you put them in their rifles at least that's how they had it when I went. I had my own rifle and IIRC I shot reloads.

ETA- there is an email in the original post for the point of contact. You might save time getting the CORRECT answer from Mr. Waldo. I'm not sure if they check in that often here. Most of the computer savvy gang also posted on NY highpower site. It's not near as active as arfcom though. What is?

I almost thing there was a rule change allowing the DMR type forend (as the army issued, not anything goes) but with A4 clamp on sights, but they may be only for the .308 version of the rifle. Also at the time I read it only one group, I think the NRA service rifle did that but the CMP did not accept that. (it's a bit F'd up with seperate 2 rule books)
