 NY legal AR Uppers

I'm building my first ar and have the lower completed. I am looking for companies that make NY legal AR uppers. I know that DEL-TON makes some and want to know what my other options are? Any recommendations?

By the time I'm done adding things like Chrome lined barrel & BCG, different handgrips, and sights I end up around $700 ish w/ a del-ton setup... so somewhere in that ball park would be nice.

thanks

For $700 you could get a LMT upper with LMT BCG. Just have the muzzle perm. attached and the bayo lugs removed. Definitely don't spend $700 on a Del-Ton product.

Plus one
Check with Pete at Legal transfers here on the site. He did 2 RRA uppers for me from the factory and they were under $600

Spikes, Noveske to name a few. Also ADCO does custom uppers. Most places make ny compliant but do not list it. Just call or email and they should do it.

Last year I got a Stag upper from http://www.m4store.net/

I was able to order a plain crowned barrel and didn't have to deal with the muzzle brake/thread/weld/pin bullshit.

Best part of the deal was it didn't cost anything extra, I just had to wait a couple of extra weeks for it.

Email or call them and see what they can do for you.

rock river does ban compliant uppers too. I myself prefer a plain muzzle the loudness of brakes is a big turn off for me. I don't plan on slogging thru a swamp with my ar anytime soon so chrom lined is not something I am big on either.
I had noveske do me a ban compliant upper a while ago it was big $$ but I really like it.

http://www.jtdistributing.com/

Call them up, tell them what you want and they can get/manufacture it.

I believe they have an industry forum here too. Great people to work with.

here it is...

Why don't you just buy a BCM, brake and have them ship it directly to ADCO. Is this not allowed anymore?

I have a DelTon Hbar upper and it;s great, shoots very well. Cost me $350 with bcg. I will definatly use DelTon on another build.

If your going to spend 700 beans. I would go with BCM too, and have it sent to ADCO. I think BCM will dot it too?

+1 to BCM

I wouldnt spend over $350-380 on a Delton upper.

for $400-500 you can get a spikes upper

LMT around the same price point really if you shop smart.

that said about Delton products.... I am not really an AR snob. Ive got RGuns, CMMG, Stag, DSA, Essential Arms, RRA, etc etc.... I wouldnt mind a Delton product, but not above that price point I mentioned.

I contacted BCM and they pointed me to these for NY legal

the only ones we have would be a MID-14 w/ a permanent comp and a 11” or 12” handguard.

I looked at them and they had very few (1 model I think) in stock... they come with a bayo lug but I figured I could dremel that off and just touch it up...

But in the end I decided to save a couple of bucks and go with a Stag 2h that comes NY legal w/ a comp and no bayonet lug... can put the extra couple of hundred to a red dot... now I get to go through the same hemming and hawing over which one of those to get...

and once I use this one for a while I'll have a better idea what to do about AR #2 :) (but I think #2 might just be a bottom of the line, no options, delton for the kids)

thanks again for your help...

Some people might consider it slumming but you could look at http://www.model1sales.com. For what an their uppers with a bolt carrier costs you might as well buy a complete kit sans lower. You can pick and choose a number of options and they cater to AWB customers with no bayonet lugs and crowned muzzles or brakes. I bought an A-2 kit for a backup service rifle/run and gun plinker couple in 2008 and was quite pleased with it considering the price, 2332 rounds later.

Model one has been struggling with credit card security issues in the past, some people are wary of them. Rguns is difficult to deal with if there is any problem. RRA is only selling post ban uppers now with a target barrel because of the nonsense on Long Island, no more permanently attached compensators.

Stag has a couple of options also.

NICE! A buddy of mine in NJ has a ban compliant Stag just like that...no skeleton stock though. Never had a jam or a single problem in the past couple years of shooting it.

I'd recommend getting some pre-ban USGI 30 round mags...I'm not sure the Orlite ones are all that reliable.

Oh. And lots and lots and lots of ammo.

Here's my ban compliant beauty...Colt Match Target M4.

Ya know...I don't really understand people getting expensive, heavy, free floated 4 railed handguards and never putting anything on them.

I mean I understand that free floating a barrel may gain you a LITTLE more accuracy at extreme distances...but unless you are doing precision shooting, what is the point?

The magpul handguards allow you to mount rails where needed, don't cost $400, and aren't heavy.

YMMV.

I am leaning toward the magpul for exactly that reason. I like the look of the quad rails but the price tag....

Don't get a quad rail unless you plan on mounting something that absolutely needs to hold a zero, or unless you are building a sub-moa precision rifle that needs a free floated barrel.

Don't do it for the looks either.

Buy ammo instead.

Thats exactly why I sold my rail's on both my AR's. They now sport Magpul hand guards. All I ever had on the rails was a light, and a fore grip for a while, but I didn't like the fore grip anymore, and didn't want all that extra weight for just a light attached. I bought some more reloading components for 556 with the cash left over from selling the rails.
