I have a confession to make...
I do not like Guacamole.
It's true. I haven't touched the stuff EVER.
After 23 years in central TX, I ate some again during lunch at a Tex-Mex
place we go to a lot and I wasn't grossed out by it. As a matter of
fact, the next time I tried it I actually seemed to develop a little
taste for it. The thing with this guacamole was that it's fairly chunky
and has diced tomatoes and onions in it. Then I tried some smooth
guacamole, and hated it again. For some reason, I felt compelled to make
it myself today (I followed Alton Brown's recipe), and God help me - I
actually seem to like the stuff. I mean, I'm not crazy over it, but it's
starting to grow on me.
Which makes me curious - poll inbound...

I love guacamole but do not like hot sauce or jalepenos

Guacamole is awesome.
Avocados are awesome.
Bad food will ruin a great experience.
Guacamole, if done well, is awesome.

I hate avocado but love guacamole...

I only eat it to raise my HDL levels, but that's only if it comes with my meal at a restaurant. Otherwise I wouldn't eat it.
First time I saw someone eat an avocado on the job I was grossed out because he talked with his mouth open and it looked like green slime in his mouth but after I tried one I think avocados and guacomole rule. Now I'm the one who grosses people out.
If I was allowed, I'd eat avocados and guac until i got sick. That stuff in the dairy case is the equivalent to chili in Ohio. And the stuff from Abuelo's is crap. Shredded lettuce....there needs to be a law against it.
mm
Can't stand it, sorry guys.
Me like ....
love guacamole, prefer less tomatoes and other crap in it.
the closer to pure avocado, the better.
Love the stuff.
Great stuff. Even slices of avocado are great. The only reason people don't like it is their older brother told them it was made of smooshed up caterpillars.
Try a
molcajete to impress the women-folk.
Chunky guac is da bomb. I hate the smooth stuff. Put fresh jap peppers in mine. Waay to effin good.

Ever been around cows eating fresh green grass? Looks the same.
Love it. I eat it every way, everywhere.
But the best Guacamole I've ever had is at Boudro's on the Riverwalk where they prepare it table side and dice it. It's the best way to do it IMO. They really have it down to an art there; They start off with a quarter orange and freshly squeeze it into a traditional molcajete. Score and pit the avocado. Then dice it and and place it into the molcajete. They add two diced roasted tomatoes, one diced roasted serrano pepper, and then add a spoon of chopped red onions, and another spoonful of cilantro. They squeeze half a lime over all of it and then sprinkle some sea salt on top. They then carefully blend it by folding the guacamole over each other using two spoons in each hand, mixing it, not smashing it. Its served with fresh corn tortilla chips
Believe it or not Krogers store made is damn good.
I too like the chunkier guacamole. The smooth shit isn't as good normally.
Zhukov, where did you eat the smooth crap? Was it a real Mexican hole it the wall or some chain?
Kids are grown but still can't discount the uncanny resemblance to post-infant-processed-Gerber-green-peas.
Wife loves the stuff, so I get the extra jalepenos, she gets the baby crap.
I hate that shit with a passion.
Nasty green baby shit looking stuff. Cant stand the taste or smell of avocados or guacamole.

QFT.
I hated it for about 26 years until I had some that my MIL made. I can't get enough of it and even had some last night. Lime is the key for me.
I love guacamole and avocados. They are a super food.
Fresh, chunky guacamole is awesome. The stuff that looks like it came out of a blender is shitty.
Tastes like ass, keep it away from me

This.
I love it, but if I eat it as a dip, I get mega heartburn. Love it in tacos, burritos, etc.

Believe it or not, it was made by a Mexican lady for our kid's soccer team end-of-season party. She had enough serranos in there to set your world on fire too.
So at about 25% dislike, I guess I wasn't alone in my dislike. I voted "Meh", as I'm not crazy about it yet, but I figured I might as well expand my palate...
lots of onions, tomatoes, serranos, salt, pepper and garlic

The stuff you made is what I'm basically getting to like - mine's made like it. I used jalapenos the first go-round, but added cayenne.

This man needs to be paid a large sum of money for his wisdom.
That is all.
Love it, especially made fresh at the table. I've gotten to the point that if I'm not super hungry when we hit a Mexican restaurant, I'll order that plus a bowl of tortilla soup.

We have a restaurant up here that makes THE best guacamole. I go there just for that.

Fresh with minimal added ingredients is my preference.
Not guacamole, but lately I've developed a fondness for diced avocado with 2-3 tbsp white vinegar and sprinkled with sea salt.

That sounds pretty good i'll have to try that.
Most fish tastes like it stinks and I can only eat deep fried catfish or grilled snapper or halibut and thats with an open mind. Guacomole not done right though is not in my vocabulary as I've never experienced that. I've never met an avacado I didn't like.

Fresh homemade guacamole cures certain cancers... the crap that is served from the crappy Tex-Mex diner comes in a just add water bag from New York City or maybe Beijing, China

Don't like it. Will choke it down if it's part of a layered dip.
Let me put another way... I didn't claw my way to the top of the food chain to eat that shit...
Not that I really give a rats ass, but does anything else eat the damned things besides bugs maybe?

Toxicity to animals
Avocado leaves, bark, skin, or pit are documented to be harmful to animals; cats, dogs, cattle, goats, rabbits, rats, birds, fish, and horses[22][40] can be severely harmed or even killed when they consume them. The avocado fruit is poisonous to some birds, and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) lists it as toxic to many animals including cats, dogs, and horses.[41] Avocado is an ingredient in AvoDerm dog food[42] and cat food.[43] However, the ASPCA has declined to say whether this food is safe or not.
Avocado leaves contain a toxic fatty acid derivative, persin, which in sufficient quantity can cause colic in horses and, without veterinary treatment, death.[44] The symptoms include gastrointestinal irritation, vomiting, diarrhoea, respiratory distress, congestion, fluid accumulation around the tissues of the heart, and even death. Birds also seem to be particularly sensitive to this toxic compound. Feeding avocados or guacamole to a non-human animal should be avoided completely.
