Question for the NJ HTF re: long gun (shotgun) possession in Atlantic City

Relatives just purchased a second home in Atlantic City. They would like to have a pump shotgun secreted/secured in their home. Are there any long gun prohibitions/licensing/permit issues relevant to long gun ownership in AC/NJ? Additionally, are there any ammunition restrictions as to amount, shot size etc.?

Any input would be appreciated.

Nope, it's perfectly fine for them to keep a shotgun there.

Thank you for the update. Are there any rifle/shotgun ranges within a reasonable distance of Atlantic City open to the public?

I assume one or both has an FID card?

What's an FID card? Seriously, does NJ have some Statewide Firearms licensing or owner permit scheme for long guns? This will be a part time residence for two owners who do not live the rest of the time in NJ.

Firearms Identification Card. You'll need that in order to purchase a long rifle in NJ. If you want to purchase a handgun, you'll need an FID and a permit for each handgun you want to get.

theres an open outdoor range outside of my town, Little Egg Harbor. exit 58 on the gsp about 25-30 mins north of AC.

take a left off the parkway exit, its a few miles down the road on the left.

So just to clarify, ban compliant (pump shotgun, no pistol grip) long guns which are already owned may be transported into NJ and do not require a city or state permit (FID) to continue to lawfully possess.

Thank you for the update about the public range in Little Egg Harbor.

Correct.

NJ only has restrictions on what "evil features" semi auto shotguns can have. Pistol grips, bayonet lugs, folding stocks, extended mag tubes, etc are all ok on a pump action shotgun.

May be transported into NJ IF you are going directly to a range, or to another home while moving. Don't throw it in the trunk, stop at 7-Eleven for coffee, stop at Wal-Mart for paper towels, etc.

You need to be a licensed hunter or with a licensed hunter to use the range on RT 539. I have only seen people checked once, but it does happen.

Contact the Atlantic County firearms range. http://www.aclink.org/publicsafety/FTF/ It is open to the public on weekends.
