Buying an ar barrel in NJ? Help please.
Is it legal to buy a 16" barrel for an AR15 and have it shipped to NJ? Do I need any permits?
Helping out a friend who is a bit unsure about the law there.
Thanks
Yes, legal. No, no permits required. A barrel is not a regulated part - anyone can buy them, and ship them.
Thanks.
That's what I thought. He's convinced he needs a permit.

Absolutely legal, the serial numbered lower receiver being the only regulated part, yet the hoohahs at Sportsman's Guide won't do it. Go figure.

and that's exactly why their catalogs go straight to the trash.

What about complete upper assemblies? Could you buy one online and have it shipped here?
yes

Yes, it's still considered a part.
Thanks for the info.
I figured shipping an upper was GTG, but with this state I want to be 100% sure.
So, next question is, what's the minimum barrel length you can have in NJ? Are AR pistols ok?

Minimum barrel length is the same as federal laws for Title 1 weapons - 16" for rifles, 18" for shotguns. No minimum on pistols.
AR pistols are OK, but they must conform to our assault firearms ban - that means for semi-auto pistols that accept a magazine outside of the pistol grip, they can not have a barrel shroud, and can not weigh more than 50oz. unloaded. This pretty much precludes all AR pistols, except the Bushmaster Carbon 15 Type 97 pistol.

i was wondering if a Plum Crazy or a (Gag) Vulcan poly lower, would work for an NJ-compliant pistol build since the Bushies are no longer made

Do you wanna buy all those parts to try and find out? Sounds like a gamble if it doesnt work out. I know you can still find the Carbon 15 Bushies around because everytime i look, i always find one.

More of an academic interest...personally I see ZERO appeal in an AR pistol, but i know some out there like them.
