So I have decided after shooting my friends wifes (FBI agent) full auto MP5 this past weekend. I was going to purchase a Kimber covert II but now I have decided a 9mm mp5 clone is my next purchase on the list. So what are my options and brands to look at that offer one that is NJ compliant. I have been having a hard time finding them. Also if anyone could direct me to where i could find them in stock.

Any help would be great thank guys.

Why not get a GSG5. I've got one and once you start shooting you can't put it down. Shoot all day for $20.

No Mp5 clone will be cheap. Do a google search on Todd Bailey and all of his companies. Stay away from anything made by all of them. Vector arms makes a quality rifle but its not cheap. I also hear the MKE AT-94's arent bad. I know Mak0 has one, maybe he can enlighten on that. Also anything built by Ghilliebear or Chopstix Kid will do you well but again, not cheap.

I have the GSG 5SD .22. As others have said, its a lot of fun at the range. If you are going to be using the clone for CQB courses and any future zombie invasions go spend the 2K+. But if its going to be just for plinking and looking pretty in the cabinet concider the .22.

I like my MKE. They're the best balance of price and quality out there right now IMO. A build by Ghilliebear or Chopstix Kid is the ultimate though but be prepared to pay ~$2500 for one.

I'll have mine at the hometown shoot this weekend, anyone who'd like to try it is more than welcome to.

I realy dont want to spend more then $1500 and def dont want to spend over 2000 and i dont think i can get a good build for that from what i have read.

The AT94-A2 is the carbine version (fixed stock, 16" barrel) that is legal in NJ. The only downside to these is that they take proprietary magazines although modifying regular MP5 mags to fit is not terribly difficult with a dremel. Also, people have removed the mag well blocks in the gun to make it accept regular MP5 mags with just a dremel. Buds has them in stock right now for $1249 shipped: http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/62302

If you want one don't hesitate, they are not being imported anymore.

Correct.

MKE builds these under HK contract using original HK tooling.

Congrats on your purchase, they are extremely fun guns.

The mags are almost impossible to find. ATI says they've had an order in for extra mags with MKE for a long time but there is no ETA on when they will be here.

In my experience cheaper, low powered ammo like Federal Champion 115gr and Remington UMC 115gr barely have enough power to cycle the action and the cases just fall at your feet. I've been shooting Winchester RA9124N though mine which runs great. I've had many people on HKpro recommend Sellier & Bellot 115gr also. I've actually bought a case of this recently but haven't tried it yet.

Here is a video on youtube of a guy explaining how he removed the mag well block:
