I have always believed this. Do we sound as odd to you as you do to us? By this I don't really mean accents, but phrases and terminology.
With Canada it is really much less of an issue..well except for that whole aboot thing.
We have quite a bit of American TV over here so the accent isn't really an issue and I would expect many of us are quite used to it.
I suppose there are some differences culturally and certainly in terms of the mentality towards liberty and freedom, but overall I think we are very similar people living different cultures.

A high proportion of the non-native American people are of Western European origin so it's not surprising there is so much affinity. My experiences of America and Americans have been more good than bad, neither of us is perfect but if we could combine the best of both it would be a great place to live!
