Remember the long-standing quest for a lightweight slip to put on a gun between stages, to keep the worst of the weather and crap off when it's on the ground, and enable you to carry it slung with the rifle's own sling? No?...Well I was chatting about this with a company local to me, as a result of which they have knocked up a prototype item to address the problem. I tried it for size today and for the first attempt it's damn good.

I know, I know, pics, but I can't get them off my phone so will hopefully have some emailed to me tomorrow. If it's well received they will be produced commercially. The prototype is for my 20" AR, but there is potential to cover a small range of popular rifles. Hopefully more to follow......

Interesting. I know BR had dabbled in this idea before.

Looking forward to seeing the pics.

Will you have an idea of price?

Looks like he couldn't wait...

http://www.body-armour-protection.co.uk/AR15-Rifle-Slip-gun-slip.html

As I said, I had hands on with the prototype yesterday. It was made specifically for my gun, and we discussed some alterations to make it compatible with slightly longer butts, larger scopes, sling positions etc. We have also discussed a generic slip for a bolt gun like an AI/Rem 700/ TRG type...looks very promising. Materials are good and build quality looks sound. I hope to have mine in time for the 7th April if anyone would like a fondle...............

The AR15 Rifle Slip/gun slip was designed by Intelligent Armour at the the request of a AR15 sports shooter.

I made ( well I got Mrs B_R to do it ) some DPM nylon rain covers - simple items and not really for carrying - more for cover when stood on the bipod.

They sold ok on ebay but it took a while

The prototype which I kept for myself was run up from an old pair of goretex trousers.

Alex at IA has already had a good number of hits on the new slip for AR's. Would anyone be willing to let me draw a pattern around their AI / AI stocked rifle on 7th April CSR. Also Sako TRG if poss?

I've got one of those hps rain covers, but they are too flimsy and leak, this is much better. Would be good for covering up when stalking too...

That's one of the uses. A cover that you can just slip on, to keep the worst of the elements off, whilst you are not using the rifle. It's not intended to be totally sealed (ie impermeable, although the material is waterproof) or protect against knocks. It means you don't have to lug a gun bag around your permission, and is easily folded and stowed when not in use..

That's great! All that's involved is literally tracing the outline onto a roll of paper and noting the width at certain points. The seamstress does the rest, and constructs the slip allowing for the bulk. I think the idea is create a generic one for AI /TRG sized rifles..

Yes but I'm slightly worried about what you are going to leave hanging out to be carried by...

I've had my AR for 12 years now, but will be using the FAL for a while yet for CSR.

I'll get the Speedmaster barrel turned down to .75" from the fluted inch that it is at the moment, then have a go with that.

Thanks for the kind words about Intelligent Armour.

We are looking at making more weapon slips for different types of weapons & already have a military sniper platoon interested.
If anyone wants to talk about having something made up, please let me know.

At the moment we can manufacture in 500D & 1000D Cordura in Black or Multicam.

Thanks

Alex

Multicam.

Looks like these slips will come in handy for the next csr, are they snow proof?

We are able to make them using Multicam that is coated with NanoSphere. Look it up, this fabric is awesome! It makes GoreTex look like a sanitary towel :)

Picked it up today:

..and it folds up this small..

Whilst I was chatting to Alex he showed me another prototype, for a G36C with Eotech and VFG. Looking at it, it may also suit a small scoped AUG. I took a tracing to try on Saturday...

I really like the look of this.

If you bring your crayons and tracing paper on Saturday you can draw round the FAL carbine if you want.

I will, but depends on demand or whether it might fit one suitable for say an AR10/L129A1....it'll have to be crayons, I'm not allowed anything sharp........I have different colours though..

Check the last CSR video I made. I think you'll find Icarus was the in the lane next to you! To give you a clue, look for the really tall bloke, Icarus is the poor sod that has to suffer being squadded with him!
