They came to Britain illegally in search of a better life, but the reality turned out to be far removed from what they dreamed of.

The BBC has spoken to illegal immigrants who find themselves living amongst rats and rubbish in makeshift garden sheds and garages. They want to be deported back to India, but many are trapped in a bureaucratic no man's land without any documents.

So now we're not good enough, eh?

Though if it's any consolation:

The immigrants complain of damp, cramped conditions, but being exploited by their own people angers them most.

"Our people who are here legally, permanent residents, who've made homes here, they've paid for their houses because of us," Jandeep says angrily.

"Their mortgages are paid because they charge a high rent. Everyone who lives here is Punjabi."

On the one hand, I have no issue with deporting illegal immigrants in principle - with some exceptions, because sometimes people really are trying to escape murder, torture or persecution. On the other hand, though, if these are people willing to get up in the morning and put in a day's work, perhaps they deserve that chance. Aren't they displaying more of a true "British spirit" than the hordes of unwashed "bennies breeders" who only get out of bed to watch Jeremy Kyle and go out on the rob?

Ahh to heck with it.

Saw this on the news last night, the slums built at the bottom of the gardens on an alley.

If everyone knows they are there, must be a serious lack of appetite to remove them, why?

Cost - it would cost the council in question hundreds of thousands of pounds to remove the immigrants, paper process them through the police before passing them on to the border agency for deportation, not to mention demolishing the "sheds" .

Plus these people claim no benefit and probably don't attend hospitals for fear of being caught.

Those that come here to work can get work.........everybody is always banging on about how immigrants steal jobs etc etc. Half of them are better workers than their British counterparts

The ones that come here without a plan to get back, or a skill that will give them a better chance of employment are bound to end up in dire straits because they are inherently stupid.

The sooner we stop allowing people in without an appropriate level of financial security, or a job to go to, in the same way Australia contols it's immigration, the better off we will be.

Those that are here illegally should be deported anyway. I know it's expensive but get rid of them and send them back. Hopefully word will spread that the UK is a shithole and they are better off going somewhere else,

I really am failing to muster up much sympathy.

Deportation costs should be charged to their home country.

Great idea. How do you enforce payment when the home country says "bog off"

These aren't illegal immigrants, they are refugees, and as such should return to their country if/when the situation improves. Not always easy, I know, but these we should help.

All illegall immegrants that cannot subsequently claim refugee status or who are deemed a risk to our security, or commit a crime in the UK (illegal immegrant or not, we have enough trouble with our own home grown criminals) should be sent packing either back home or to the first country that will have them. JMHO.

Or to the last country through which they passed before arriving here.

Only problem is the poor countries next to a war zone would be inundated and wouldn't be able to cope. Perhaps if we send some tents and bottles water.
No, wait! just send the tents, there's a water shortage apparently.

Deduct it from their "overseas aid".
