Another Brit competes on Season 4 of Top Shot
The 1st series is showing here at the moment and after seeing a couple of episodes, I think they should change the name to Top Shit

This
I watched a few episodes on Saturday while relaxing in my hotel room in NYC. I quite liked it.
Will have to wait till I am back there to watch more probably.
Too much politics and big brother-esque bullshit and not enough shooting
Sadly this show has more to do with bullying and drama than it has to do with shooting!

Very true, but, whether you like reality type TV or not, it has put "competitive style" shooting on a main stream cable channel which can't be bad for the sport's public image. Given all the negative stuff that usually surrounds anything to do with shooting I would say we should be thankful.
It might even help to sway public opinion of shooting in Britain; the majority of Brits have probably never got up close to a real handgun or seen one fired. This sort of show might help to debunk that fear and show them what a bunch of prudes the British Government were when they banned handguns, if anything it will highlight what a shackled and nannying society they live in.
Alas no - the liberal media portray civilian shooters as "gun nuts" who are normally on the brink of a complete breakdown and likely to go postal at any given moment. Average Joe Public is so used to being spoon fed their opinions that they find it hard to think for themselves. As soon as someone makes a reasoned argument along the lines of "if your prepared to go to prison for murder, then obtaining a weapon illegally is unlikely to make you think twice" (which is what Raul Moat did), they wheel out someone who screams "won't someone think of the children" before bursting into tears and accusing shooters of being a danger to society. A children's charity recently made an advertisement where people dressed in hunting gear went out on the streets and shot children, overlaid with some quotes that they said represented the views of the public regarding teenagers. Despite complaints over the total idiocy of the advert, the charity refused to even issue an apology claiming that they had children's interests at heart (as if that gave them total immunity to do whatever they wanted).
The government are happy to perpetuate this myth and have done everything in their power to reduce shooting facilities. Whilst wasting billions on the Olympics, the sites they are using for the shooting events will be dismantled immediately after the closing ceremony, for fear of anyone taking an interest. The .22 target pistols that will be used are actually illegal in this country!
The complete lack of understanding regarding firearms never ceases to amaze me. Many times when I have friends around (or have shown them videos of me shooting), the first thing they say is "is that legal?". It would take such a complete and fundamental change in thinking for things to change and I just can't see that happening.
Actually I'd be curious to know what the viewing figures are.
I bet they aren't they great as its shown on Friday nights at 9pm on the Military channel, which is never going to be the most watched channel at any time and especially oh a Friday eve at 9.......

I know I remember speaking to some people over the summer when I was in England who were telling me that Bisley Camp isn't hosting any of the shooting events. That's pretty strange given the facilities are some of the best around. Talk about wasting money, building range facilities elsewhere, and then tearing them down at the end. That can't be good use of public money.

The numbers here were fairly substantial - obviously a much bigger population base. I think the first series here yielded a viewership of something like 2.8 million at its height - I'd have to check. I don't know whether the numbers have held, but seeing as they are now on their 4th season and are, I think, already advertising for 5th season candidates, that the viewing numbers have held up.
Of course some national interest might be generated in England when Iain Harrison wins. I'm surprised none of your national media picked up on his $100k win.
When the show was first announced I thought great a shooting show then knock off copies of guns, bows, blow pipes, knives, axes, sling shots and I shit you not pebbles

became part of the show !
It was obviously more about enabling bullies to create drama in the house and blind luck chucking stones than about accuracy and marksmanship!

You shouldn't be surprised by our national media ignoring Iain's win.
None of our media would be inclined to run a story about some sort of 'gun nut' now would they. Even our gold medal shooters get very little coverage and the fact we have some top shots who still live in the country is of no interest to any sports journalist.
Bisley was deemed to be too far from London, even though the sailing is down on the coast in Weymouth. Woolwich was seen as the perfect venue for the shooting site because the historic Woolwich barracks would be an iconic backdrop (or some such bollocks), but the facilities are over the road behind a huge hedge.
The idiots running our Olympics include the turncoat Sebastian Coe and he washed his hands of British shooters after Dunblaine- wanker!
I like Top Shot. I know it has it's Big Brother type tension in the house sometimes, but there is still more shooting in it than any other game show out there.
First episode of the new season looks promising, everybody shot with the M1A for team places, team challenge with a single action Ruger and the elimination with M1 carbine was good too.
I don't own a telly, so I watch stuff online.
2nd episode!
Shooting with BAR for main challenge and 40mm multiple grenade launcher for the elimination!
I esp liked the grenade launcher bit, as it's one of those things I've used before.

No, I don't play computer games. Most folks don't know the 40mm MGL was standard issue to the SADF back in the the 1980's.
Coz it's not an American invention.
