Do the Swiss Militamen still keep their ammo at home?

I've just read on Wikipedia that the Swiss Army has stopped giving you guys ammo to keep at home in case of call-up. Any truth to that? Seems kinda pointless (although very fun) to have your rifles at home if they are just fancy sticks until you can get to a barracks and stock up on ammo.

Sir, this is only a measurement for people that have commited crimes. Which then are by law not able to buy ammo for their SG550 anymore. A sad part of it, criminals can basically go to the army without the army knowing that they are criminals (No transperance in crime) and get the SG550. Now it is more difficult for them, because they dont get the ammo anymore if they are criminals.
There are more and more voices comming up that the Soldier should be able to decide if he wants to hand in his rifle or keep it. As for now, actually if you serve in the army, you have to take your SG550 home after each time and store it, it is basically a crime if you give it back.

However, I myself can still buy 1000 GP90 Ammo for 400fr.- ( about 400$) and store it next to my Military rifle.

So, essentially, the army doesn't supply personal ammo for you anymore - you need to buy it if you want to keep some at home, and since criminals can't buy ammo, there Sigs are useless?

P.S. No need to call me Sir.

Essentially yes. If it works is another thing.

I personally would not even give Criminals the rifle. I mean sure if one once stole something or so, that is not that bad. However, there is no transparance. Meaning the army doesnt know when you are a criminal if you used to beat up guys and deal drugs or if you just begun a mild crime, and still gives you the gun.
In my opinion a fatal fault! However, I am not my countries military.

I will have to give back my "50 emergency round pack " on my next course, in 3 weeks.. (its the ammo that was supposed to allow you to reach your company in a sudden conflict)

The funny thing is that I have hundreds more that i bought at my gunsmith or at my shooting range... And I wont give them back (since I payed for them ehhehe)

For the liberals who wanna ban guns, taking the ammo, is just the 1st step.. You'll see. in a couple of years they will explain us that without ammo, Our service SIG550 is useless..

My point : the day they decide take our service rifle away, because they don't trust us anymore, I will say that i dont trust them anymore as well, and so i wont give them 3 weeks of my life each years.. And I will stop serving.. They can tax me, put me in jail, I don't care..

WE MUST STOP levelling the society by it's low elements.. It is not because some people are crazy (1 or 2 each year) that you must not trust people anymore..

But Shung,

The back you bought, werent those GP90 packs and not "emergency packs", because there is a difference between the two ammunitions. GP90 that the Army distributes legally are not the same as they would shoot in the case of war. However, I might be mistaken here. Since I have been supplied with many of those "emergency packs" ;)

I think they are exactly the same.

The only difference is that the emergency pack (munition de poche) is sealed, so that you are not allowed to open in (and they can check that you dont) . But the ammo (powder load and bullet) are the same.. exactly..

I never heard about any difference.. I dont see any valid reason why they should be different

Well I have some of those and opened some, and I really think there is a difference. Actually I think the ammo in there is pre NATO standard, so called Wartime ammo. Way higher velocitiy than it should be and makes the injuries a lot worse. I know it sounds weird, however, I talked with some RUAG guy about it and he says that what we get on the 300m stands are not the ammo they would hand out in case of war. Those are just training rounds, for me it sounds weird too. I really think I need to examine this closely. I mean RUAG has also a lot of ammo NOT available for civilians, which are especially for the military market, so it actually could make sense.

sounds weird to me..

faster bullet = different ballistic = different aiming... Do you really think that we would get war ammo which would require setting all iron sights again ?...

For me such a difference would be way too expensive, financially and tactically...

btw.. 900m/s or 800m/s doens't make a huge diference in injuries..

I will ask about that anyway.
