I moving to Spagdalem AB in 2009, I was told by another GI that just moved from there that US Military personnel were allowed by the German gov't to buy weapons provided they comply with German gun laws. Can anyone clarify this for me ?

It's called Spangdahlem.

In Germany the Bundesverwaltungsamt (BVA) is the administrative authoritiy, which is responsible for gun licenceses to members of foreign armed forces. You should contact waffenrecht@bva.bund.de for detailed information.

If you speak a little bit german or you have a friend who can, there is a thread in this german gun forum (maybe registration is required) about visitors with guns from the USA.

Having followed the WO link, Ulli is the man that you will undoubtedly get to know in your future, he's not to keen on us Brit's, but love's his employer's, the US force's.

You may have to create an account to view the topic, that the link takes you to, as I have no further contact to the US force's I will refrain from giving any info as it will probably be well wide of the mark anyway.
