What are Swiss gun laws currently like?

Have they changed recently?

You still get your full auto sig 550 once you enter military service.
Many hunting rifles, target rifles are sold over the counter but you need to show a excerpt from the federal crime database proving that you haven't commited any crime and a piece of identity.
Semi autos etc(, all other weapons minus the ones bellow basically) you need a permit. Which is actually nothing more than a background check; you request a excerpt from the federal crime databse, you send that excerpt to your local cops and they give you back a permit and your excerpt
Full autos, lasers, night vision and silencers are restricted meaning that to own them you need to apply for a special permit. For this you need to apply at the cantonal police station.

They have changed recently (minor changes in 2004 concerning ammo types) and will also change in a year or 2 due to the schengen accord, but only minimally...thank god.

That's basically it. If you have more questions: shoot.
