I was out shooting prairie dogs today, and saw this...
I had never seen a badger before. He was not afraid of me. I was in my truck, and was about 10 feet from his borough. It kept going in and out. The pics were without zoom on my cell phone. If it will eat dead prairie dogs it will have a good meal today.
Sweet Badger try
rub its belly next time.
Dang. The little bugger I'd definitely not timid is he?
That is the cat that has been shitting in your flower garden.

I've only seen 2 of them in my many years hunting and hiking in the SW. Like vbfg135 said you should have rubbed it's tummy. It would have really warmed up to you and you would have made a friend for life. They are much better than cats, they won't crap in your flower beds and will keep them tilled up so you won't have a weed problem. Good on you for not shooting it except with your phone.

He can crap there all he wants!
I will not ask him to leave.
Don't they eat snakes & centipedes as part of their diet?
I think a badger pelt would be cool to have, but he was just too neat to shoot.
It was not scared of me at all. I am sure it would have let me get closer than the 10 feet I was, but that was a lot closer than I was comfortable.
That is awesome! In all my travel around the Southwest, I've never seen one in person...
I've done a fair bit of doggin myself and never seen one either. Cool!

very cool! never seen one of those before.
can't say for sure, but that area looks shockingly similar to a spot south of grants where I like to go doggin....
Honey Badger?
Seriously (and I hope I don't need to tell you this): badgers are pretty ferocious critters.
Where are you shooting? I really want to go prairie dog shooting but I have no clue where to go. Take me!!!

Go South on I-25. Take the Bernardo exit (169, I believe) and head West for 5 miles. When you see the BLM signs, start looking for them.
Or, go to White Mesa/Ojito ( about 2 or 3 miles before you get to San Ysidro (hwy 550). Take main road until you pass compressor station. There are several little PD towns out there.
Beware of fleas this time of year, they are bad.
Thanks!!!

It is out near Farmington. I would imagine it is very similar to Grants though.

American badger I believe.
I was in my truck, and glad I was. Although he did look friendly enough.
I have about a 20 second video of him. I just do not know how to post it.

It is definitely getting tougher to find good towns. It seems like there are houses being built all around them.
I usually go on a weekday morning. Come on up I will be glad to take you.

The area south of Grants has some great towns. Have not gone this year with all the fires, so I am not sure how they have done with the drought.
