The CNM Shooting Club is looking for new members, last year the club had a board but the club was not active. I would like to see this club do well, there was some talk this term that this club wasn't going to continue. I would hate to see a shooting club be discontinued because a lack of membership. This is my first term being a member and I offered to try and get a few more people to sign up as members.

To join the CNM Shooting Club:
1. You must be a CNM student enrolled in at least 3 credit hours
2. You must attend one club meeting a term.

I would appreciate it if you would pass the word on to anyone you know who attends CNM, thank you!

If you have any questions please feel free to email me.

I e-mailed Lisa several times last semester and practically begged her to let me join. Please, for the love of God, tell me how I can support the club. Thank you.

Hoepfully next semester I will be starting. I have been waiting for things to calm down at work before starting classes.

I did not know CNM had a shooting team. Until about 5 minutes ago, I also did not know there is a rifle team at NM Tech (Soccorro). I have emailed their coach to ask how I can get in touch with their counterpart at UNM. UNM (or at least UNM policy) is very anti-gun, so I would not have expected such a thing to exist.

If you haven't guessed, I am starting at UNM this fall and I might be looking for some extracurricular activity. Something shooting-related would be perfect.

@MAHA, I'll be expecting you to join the shooting club when you take your classes.

@Frank, I am not sure how it works with employees, the paper I have with the requirements to join is for students. I can send an email to the club advisor if you want?

I've been going there for 3 years now and NEVER heard/seen a thing. How is that? I'll look at joining. Where so I find contacts, requirements, and associated fees?

Slim there aren't any fee's for joining the club, you just have to be taking 3 credit hours at CNM and attend at least one meeting a term. I can get you signed up if you want to join or you can contact Lisa for more info her email is on CNM's website.

I heard back from the coach at NM Tech. It seems the only shooting team at UNM is associated with ROTC.

Could I perhaps be eligible for "transfer" membership at the CNM team? We're next-door neighbors after all.

I'm not especially good, but I'm willing to learn.

Finally, I'm a member here!

This is Dr. Lisa M. Orick-Martinez, I'm the faculty advisor for the CNM Shooting Club, yes we have one and we have been a chartered student activity club for over 13 years. Why haven't you heard of us? Mostly because I fight with the school newspaper to put a post in it about upcoming meetings, people tear down the fliers, or I get in trouble for having fliers up where they re not supposed to be (i.e., next to the fliers for the outdoor club, spanish club, etc.).

To answer your questions, we have shot at the city range and at Calibers. For the first 12 signatures (to get chartered again), I need students taking at least 3 credit hours this fall at CNM. The club is open to students, staff and faculty. We may also have 30% of our membership from the community, non-CNM students.

However, we are not allowed to use any money on non-students (or staff or faculty) the club money is only for students. If we get some punch cards to shoot at Calibers, only CNM students who are members of the shooting club may use them, we may not use them for staff, faculty or non-cnm students.

I have the forms to sign and will be e-mailing next week where I'll be so students can sign the paperwork to get us chartered. After that, then we can reserve a room on campus and have an official membership meeting. Hope this clears things up.

Hi Lisa. Thanks for posting here and welcome to Arfcom. You are brave. Which e-mail do you intend to use to disclose the space time co-ordinates for the signing of the paperwork? CNM? ARFcom? I'm the guy who was in your listening class in the spring, asked a lot of questions about the shooting club but dropped the class. Pat is my name. Thanks again and I look forward to seeing you.

Hey Lisa!
Sorry I didn't get to post that reply for you but Fred and I were in Minnesota for 5 days.
Glad to see you joining us here in the NMWTF!
These are a great group of folks and you'll find yourself among like-minded friends.
If there's anything that I can do to support the club, please let me know.

Thanks,
Lee

I don't get it. The cry goes out to support the club for fear of it dying. I rally the troops. At least six nursing nursing students that I spoke with had genuine interest. My daughter who is a CNM student is interested as well. Who knows how many young shooters she could attract to the club. Then no follow up by those in charge. Lame. It takes a lot for me to throw my hand up and say fuck it but I'm there on this one. It's a shame. I've tried for about a year now to simply get signed up. No dice. Do I stink? WTF over.

Seca, I apologize for never getting back to you about the club. I have been busy with not much free time. I was waiting to here if there was gonna be a club before I spent your time signing you up.

As far as I know the board for the club is meeting this month but I am not sure if there is a club? When I talked to Lisa before the start of the term she said that she had been doing most of the promoting by herself and she needed help from the students and hadn't found anyone to help. I offered but didn't plan on having to work 60 hour weeks. Well I will send her an email this evening after work and will post more info.

Apology accepted Gunslinger. I appreciate you being motivated by a desire to not waste my time. My frustration does not stem from you alone. As I've said, my efforts to support the club go back much further than my correspondence with you. There seems to be a disconnect between people (students) interested in joining and those seeking members. I have never seen a flier or a paragraph in the CNM Chronicle regarding the shooting club. Both would be sure to get some response. CNM gets a lot of traffic on their Facebook page. A weekly post there might generate interest as well.

My understanding is that CNM is a gun-unfriendly environment and that those who support the Shooting Club are swimming upriver...
I sent an email to Lisa.

Thanks,
Lee

Just like every other liberal breeding ground. It's an unarmed victim zone, where guns are not allowed unless your there to kill not learn!

The CNM Shooting Club was JUST granted their Charter last week (September 30, 2011). The board has to meet with the Dean of Students and that meeting isn't until October 14, 2011. After that the board will select a date, time and place to hold our first shooting club meeting. This is where the club members decide what they want to do. I have many conncections and ideas, but I'm only the advisor and am supposed to only advise. I'll be sure that myself or someone posts the information on this site and the CNM Facebook site. Thank you for being patient!

In Reply to Lee, yes, CNM is very WEAPON UNFRIENDLY. CNM considers the following weapons that are not allowed on campus:
firearms (even those disabled for demonstration), knives, pocket knives, expandable batons, pepper spray, just about anything you would use to protect yourself! At one time one of my students was told she could not be in a poster of a gun! Sheesh!

This is a real bummer. I take my pocket CRKT to class all the time. I sure would hate to be labeled a terrorist for having a pocket kinfe.
