Any RGC members know anything about this?
range closing
Notice to all members: After an emergency meeting Monday evening, club officers have decided to close the range effective immediately. Officers are working right now to gather information and come up with a plan to re-open the range ASAP. Please plan to attend the meeting on the 14th for more details.

I'll be at the meeting as I'm trying to become a member and understand I'm somewhere near the top on the wait list.
Interesting development to say the least.

I spoke to the secretary tonight. Apparently the metal recycling plant that lies on the other side of the 200 yard berm has
expanded. In the words of mr secretary, "It's
really close to the 200 yard berm now."
I would very much like to attend the Tuesday meeting at the RPD, but will be out of town on vacation next week. Considering the litigious nature of gun clubs and shooting ranges, I suspect this will end the RGC at this location. The club secretary said that wasn't the opinion of the other officers, but he shared my opinion that he thought it may shut the range down permanently.
This is an interesting turn of events. I vehemently refuse to shoot at Hobbs. I guess I will have to build some shooting benches and make some steel targets for my farm if RGC closes.
I came here hoping someone would know something. This sucks. I wonder if building up the berm is an option.
I just got off the phone with another member and heard some conflicting information. He has heard that there were approximately 20 fresh bullet holes in the building approximately 500 yards beyond the berm and fresh hits in the trees at the top of the berm. The City or Rogers forced the closure for now. He did say that they think if they build the berm up another 20 ft (at a cost of 5k) that they will probably be able to open it back up. If this is true I'd like to find the person/people that were responsible.

Since I've been a member the newsletter has always been full of: no ground strikes, police up your brass, and make sure you're shooting into the berms. Every time I visit the range there's new evidence that some folks don't play by the rules. The few will ruin the deal for the many.
Bump for update??
Is anyone going to the monthly meeting this week?

Meeting is tomorrow night. I imagine we'll get an update then. I sent Darren an e-mail about it, but I assume he's slammed with the same questions over and over and probably waiting until the meeting to discuss it.

Anyone have an update that was at the meeting last night?
The officers noticed the 200 yard berm was eroded enough that buildings could be seen over it, and a man in a tractor was visible. They held an emergency executive meeting and voted to close the range until the berm could be repaired. There were no bullet strikes or incidents. The president chose not to inform the membership until a plan could be formed and presented to the city, to prevent rumors making their way to the city, risking permanent closure because of misinformation. There will be a followup explanation email soon.

Also a motion was put forth to spend the money needed to make the repairs. It was voted on and approved.
Wow, my so called reliable source was way off. Sorry for the misinformation.
Thx for the update.
Every time we get all set to have a good ol fashioned wailing with massive weeping and gnashing of teeth, some joker has to come along and shed the light of truth on everything and just kill all of the drama.
You are just no fun at all DurendalZero!
This was the e-mail sent out to the members with an explanation in case any of you guys missed it.
"Patrick explained that
lights and equipment can be seen beyond our 200-yard berm due to expansion of
TRG Recycling. He also spoke of recent bullet strikes to be seen on trees
atop the 200-yard berm. He explained the emergency meeting the
officers had on the 6th and the officers decision to close the range
immediately. Patrick also explained plans to raise the present berm
another 10 feet with dirt and another 10 feet with railroad ties. The
city may provide the needed dirt from the top of the hill. Plan was worked with
Pat Adams of Adam Excavating and the assistance of SGT Scott
Clifton of Rogers Police Department.

Darren
also spoke of the need for berm improvements and about the need for at
least 3 or 4 work days to finish berm and top with ties. A temporary road
will likely be needed to get the dirt to the berm; road would be used by us
to move the railroad ties. Apparently these ties can be obtained free of
charge because we are a non-profit club. Two members vouched for Pat
Adams and stated he would be a good person for the club to deal with. The
parking lot imrovement may be put on hold until the berm issue is finished."
I'm just glad the closing won't be permanent!!!

I sent Patrick and Darren an e-mail to find out where we're getting the railroad ties and where they want them dropped off. Hopefully it will be a pretty open schedule and we can run get them whenever we have time and stage them at the range. I've got a Superduty and a trailer good for ~7000lbs. I think I can grab about 24 ties at a time if I can get a couple guys to help with loading and unloading.
I'll post back here once I get the skinny. Maybe a couple of you guys can help me out.
