I went through Westgate several years back.....unfortunately I haven't been active in recent years. I miss it, and want to go back but to find the time it deserves is not possible right now.

What do you do in a mason club? This question is coming from someone in the current generation who has basically only seen shriners ride around in funny cars.

member, taylor lodge 156... i joined with my brother in the same lodge our dad joined years ago... much fun and a great honor. i'm going to move my membership or hold joint membership, since our lodge in baxter is a nice little place and i'm going to start going monthly...

andrew,

if you're interested i'd be glad to visit with you. the masonic lodge (blue lodge) is how you become a mason, and if you opt to do more the shrine is something you can participate with also. i'm not a shriner yet, but plan to soon. i'm proud of my brothers that do a lot in blue lodge and the many clubs you can participate with through the shriners have brought about some fantastic things for those in need.

not a problem. I was going to get into the shriners also but have no time. I expect when the youngest boy gets a bit older and hopefully time isn't at a premium I will do alot more with masonry.

Yup, I've been a Free Mason since 1974. Joined in South Dakota back then. Belong to the lodge in Arcadia, Iowa now.

So is it kind of a service / volunteer group that helps out charitable causes, plus a place to hang out and socialize with friends in the organization?

andrew,

check out that link to the masonic forum here. there is a tacked thread with some really great explanations there. check it out.

i hold the lessons learned in ritual and my degree work as some of the most important i've ever learned. the fraternity itself is great and i really enjoy it personally, but the ability to get involved with one another and for others is super too if you opt to participate.

Our lodge in Adel still has a snooker table.. and yes I was a Mason had to demit after I joined the catholic church. Certain things in Lodge conflict with Catholicism.

Certain parts of the teachings of the lodge conflict with Catholicism in what part Jesus played in biblical history. Being a Catholic docent preclude you from being a Mason, They wont hunt you down for it. LOL! I encourage you to do a Google search of Free masonry and the Catholic church. It is very well documented. I am not a theologian so I wont comment further..

And yes it is a GREAT organization they do many things for the communities. I met many sound morale people, and many of our early forefathers were masons and if your on this site, you believe as they did. I would encourage anyone to join!! I believe unfortunately it is a dying organization.

i used to also, but there is quite a surge in membership in some lodges... maybe it is the circles i've run in, but all the clubs are taking hits as folks are so busy... but i'm of the opinion membership is making a swing upward... i hope i'm right...
