 Any good gun stores?

I'm new to Iowa and I'm looking to find the good shops or dealers to do transfers etc. Are there any good black rifle oriented shops in Iowa? If not, any good shops in general? There were two great shops that I used to frequent in Colorado and I'm hoping I can find something similar here.

If you're in the Des Moines area check out Jack Smith Gun Sales, NE side of town. Very large selection, good prices(cash or check only, no credit) and a straight shooter. I was about to buy a RRA AR from him until I found a dealer in the Omaha area that was very comparable price wise and I wouldn't have to drive 2.5 hours out of my way to get there.

I can only assume because your post count that you haven't been following the IHTF. Might want to do some research. Just a friendly suggestion.

Best of luck to you.

Did he not check your credentials and see if you were worthy of buying that AR?

Somebody please link to the archived thread about Jack Shithead Smith so the newbies are aware...

That link would've been helpful. I did find it eventually with a fair amount of searching and between that and messaging one of the other responders I now know what was being referenced. I appreciate the info and will avoid the shop in the future.....too bad I didn't see that thread a month ago while lurking here, would've saved me some time....live and learn!

Thanks for the good laugh Logan

stay away from Spetics place, and Rhine Group... both terrible places, they let just about any hooligan hang out there, Including Me. Not sure what kind of folks you are use to dealing with, but these 2 are trouble.

Honest, good, hard working people that can carry on a good conversation and support our 2A rights... Who'd want to deal with that?

Rhine Group, also Sportsman's in Ankeny. Both good businesses to frequent.

Septic-tank will do free transfers if you are an IFC member. That's $25 for a year of free transfers! I assume he can order whatever you want also?

I'm going to try and make it out there on the 4th. I need to order some kits for a pair of lowers I have.

I lived in Denver, which I don't miss at all, but the rest of the state is beautiful. I really wanted to move up into the mountains ,but the longer I lived there the more it became obvious that wasn't going to happen without a ton of money, or a very long commute. It is on the short list of places to retire to.

You can even drool on his NFA toys while he finishes the transfer!

I've hit all the big box stores that I know of, Sportsman's, BP, and Scheels. I rarely buy guns at those places though, I'd rather support a good shop. The only thing I would buy on the spot from anyone that had it right now would be a Ruger 1911.

Not yet but we will. If you haven't done so yet join the Iowa Firearms Coalition to help us support passing legislation to allow NFA weapons.

Lol yes I was. Thomas did 90% of the work for me. I left my shovel in the car and out of sight.

Yes, NFA is allowed for many civilians in Iowa. This includes law enforcement officers if it is department-owned/issued, as well as FFLs that are allowed by federal law to deal with it. Unfortunately the rest of us are not allowed to own it currently.

In case the point was missed, this is my pedantic response to not classifying civilian law enforcement as civilians. LEOs ARE CIVILIANS. Making divisions between LEOs and the rest of us is a BAD thing. Segregation leads to animosity, and leads to the kind of civil rights abuses and physical abuses that you occasionally hear about in the news. Removing the artificial division and us-vs-them mentality will help reduce these problems.
