Wish I could attend and help out, but alas, I'll be at the hospital with the wife and a new set of twins. Probably not going to be going anywhere for a couple of days after this Friday.

Thanks. I'm wondering how much stuff they're going to haul out of there this weekend. Last time we had a cleanup, back in June, I think the take was over a ton and that was just with a few of us picking up the big stuff.

Fortunately, it appears it'll be much drier up there this time. At least nobody should fall into any, ummmm, mud pits.

Nobody else going? Are we all a little too lazy or what?

Sorry all, I can't make it.
I have kids in all-state orchestra in Aberdeen this weekend.
Otherwise, I'd be there with bells on.

I also second Surly's comment...C'mon a little work never hurt anyone.
We can't take these free ranges for granted. Even if it means having to clean up after dipshits a couple of times a year.
It's worth the effort.

That is awesome man, Congrats to both of you.

If it's not too much trouble, could you send me a IM with a update after the fun is over.

I'm a big, blubbery, softy when it comes to the little ones.

Good luck and I'll be thinking of you two.

I just heard on the radio that BR will be closed all weekend. I was planning on shooting before or after the clean up and, with this info, I don't think I'm going to go. What's the point if I can't shoot? I clean up everytime I go there so I think I'm going to sit this one out and go shoot elsewhere. Anyone want to meet at an alternate area?

Might be out at govt fiield depending on weather. The forest service cleared out all those jack pines to the south so you can really stretch it out now. I bet you can get 1100 to 1200 yards out there now. Happy days.

I went down to Homer's instead. Beer, stogies and some shooting...representing all three food groups.

For a while yesterday it looked like that big cloud of smoke was coming from Beretta Rd. Apparently it was a controlled burn at Sheridan Lake though. I ended up having to be at the school for most of the morning and then heading out to Gov't Field with my GF and some friends to do some shooting in the afternoon. It was a good day, we set steel up at 400 and 860 yds and then one at 100 yds for the .22's. I managed to convert my girlfriends "I only like to shoot pistols" attitude into a "I need to get a rifle" after I got her smacking the steel at 860 with my .308 like it was nothing.

As an interesting side note, at 400 yards a 175 gr. SMK will almost shoot through a 3/4" thick railroad tie plate, even if its hanging so it can swing when its hit. The 168's though, just made a little dent.

I was out there too yesterday (Govt Field). There was people up at the bench when we showed up so we went down the road aways and set up. We could only get out to 625 were we set up so we just shot the smaller gongs. Deadeye, you must have been up at the bench area? I think you guys showed up after us. Great day to be out shooting anyway.

Now I got to get started on some reloading.

Yeah, I was driving the black car that was parked up by the bench. I kinda figured that's what happened since there was a couple of guys just leaving the bench when I pulled up. I could hear ya ringing the steel down there, and I was about to come down and tell you guys that you could come back up to the bench if you wanted and we would set some steel down there a ways farther but it looked like you were starting to pack it up for the day. It started to get a bit busier after we got there, I suppose since Beretta Rd. was closed and people wanted to sight their deer rifles in.

After we had been shooting for an hour or so, we drove down the road to check the target at 860. While we were down there a couple of guys in a pickup showed up and drove right between the rest of our group that were loading mags at the bench, and the berm off to the left that they were just shooting at. They parked in the road about 25 yards from our 400 yd target and started setting their stuff up. I'm not really sure how they could have missed the 3'x3' piece of cardboard and the steel plate with a fresh coat of white paint that they parked next to. We stopped on our way back from checking the target and I pointed out our targets and that they were in a really bad spot since it was right between us and our targets. His first response was "well why aren't you shooting into the hill?" After I told him that I couldn't get 800 yards from the hill he said "well why do you need to shoot that far, what are you shooting, a 16" gun?" At that point I got slightly irritated and pointed out that there was an area behind the hill off to the right side of the bench that would be perfect for them, since they were just shooting pistols at 25 yards anyways. They did grab their stuff and move though, so it wasn't too big of a deal. His comments did annoy me a bit though.

That was the second time this year that someone has done that, once at Beretta Rd, and then there. Just more reason I need to get the heck out of school and get a house on a big chunk of land to shoot on.

I had a similiar issue at govt field with guy and his family on atvs. They seemed to have found away to get in from the back side. According to my map the road ends dowm there. He came and started bitchning at me and my brother about shooting the wrong way. I told him its forest service land and I can shoot anywhere I want and that he was in the wronf for driving off established trails. Then we touched off a tannerite and he left in a tizzy.

Sounds like you guys had a good trip, aside from the schmuck encounter. I was on my way there and I continued south to go out by the agate beds east of Fairburn. I didn't see anyone, or hear anyone for that matter, where I was at. I shoot at the rocks out there. The best part is not having to set up and retrieve.

Head out of rapid on hwy 16. Turn into rockerville, take south rockerville road to the south towards the childrens home. This road will come out on the hwy connecting keystone to hermosa, I'm not sure the name of the hwy. Turn left and its right on the right hand side of the road about a mile. Its a dirt road that leads to a wooden shooting bench.

Sorry my directions suck

What time would we head up there? I might bring a couple of my other kids.
