Dress warm sir, ambient (not to include wind chill) temps get down past -30 here in the winter time.

Your right! Standing rock sound like it might be it. The lady I talked to told me everything so fast.

My guess is it's the dry cold? What kind of hunting do you all have around there?
the dry cold where your nostrils freeze together.

I love that cold, where you break out the ski goggles to walk to class in.
Anyone want to recommend some good boot? I'm going to need something good for hiking and walking in yet warm. Not sure how warm as my feet get hot a lot. Also what are some good base layer clothing? I'm guessing I'm going to be coming up there at the start of 2011.

We just relocated here, after EGI was absorbed into a larger company. Haven't ridden the winter out yet but I'll say this: I already know that it's the greatest state in the country.

Just like to know why you think that?

I know how that is I use to live in Southwest Texas in an area I could go out on my front porch and shoot of my AR and no one would say a word. Then I had to move back to IL where I can't even find a place to shoot my rifle.
I'm looking for a place like the one I had in Southwest Texas, I want my kids to be able to grow up in an area where they can be wild and free to be able from my oldest to take a rifle his dog and spend his summer outdoors. For my daughter to get the horse she always wanted. I'm wanting to find an area I can call home build a nice home on and live off the land after I retire and until the day I die. I don't feel I'm asking for to much! Do you think I'm?

You just gave the
exact reasons, to the letter, of why we love ND already. Back in Louisiana, we couldn't even let the children go into the front yard without supervision. Here in rural ND, the kids can run or ride a bike over to a friends house without worry. We are planning to get horses and chickens for them (they have always wanted a horse), as well as do a little farming if time permits. Another reason is the people; there
cannot be friendlier people than those we have encountered in ND. While there are always bad apples, they are rare instead of being the rule and the level of kindness here is much different.
Add to that the fact that most here are very hard working, resourceful, and self-sufficient people and you have my idea of a perfect state. This still ignores the fact that ND is the most financially solid state in the entire country, and the
only state that is expanding. It is a net export state and the population is growing very fast, lately (both good and bad, of course).
SHHHHHHHHH!!
First rule about the "ND is Awesome" club is:
WE DON'T TALK ABOUT HOW ND IS AWESOME!!
Best kept secret in the country and let's keep it that way!

The winters do keep out the weak. You might think you know what cold is.......YOU DON'T!! Rest of the year is great. I love the weather right now.

Whats the speed limit around there? Last state I was at that would be a 45min drive. I'm guessing I'd have to find a place that is about a 30min drive because of my job.
