I'll be over for a night or two. I don't have a bike though. But I figure I will hit up a show or two. Check out some boobies.

If I could be on vacation somewhere else for the entire time, I would be.

I'll probably be working the Guns of Freedom thing at the Buffalo Chip Shooting Complex. Maybe catch a show or two at the Chip.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts on the rally as well. Too bad our jobsite is in Sturgis at the moment.

Drunken idiots picking fights has taken most of the fun out of it for me, I avoid it for the most part.

Too many people...no thanks.
Granted, I have lots of friends and family come through for the rally and it's always nice to see them every year.
It's all those other assholes I can't stand.

You'd think with the fuel injected motors nowadays that they wouldn't have to keep reving the throttle at lights to keep them running.
Separation Anxiety seems to affect a lot of riders in groups also. So much so that I've seen riders do some pretty stupid shit to catch up to the pack.
I feel a rant coming on, so I best just quit whilst I'm ahead.

my in-laws live in sturgis, so i have been to the rally a couple times... enough to know i hate the thing and you'd have a tough time paying me enough to go there.

as far as the boobie spectacle... ehh, seen enough of 'em i don't feel i have to go there to see more. 'sides, 40, 50, 60 year old tits don't do much for me...

I probably won't even go near the interstate during Sturgis week, let alone to the town itself. I went for a night last year just to see what it was like, it felt like I was walking through the worlds largest t shirt stand, filled with people wearing far too few clothes, and it seemed like the nastier they were, the less clothes they had on.

Yup. Bunch of new folks at work getting all worked up about the rally. One asked if I was going, and I told her that working the Shoot would be as close to downtown as I would get. When she asked why, I said Been there, done that, got the Tshirts, hats, doo rags, and a couple of tatoos to prove it. There's nothing there that I haven't already seen. Don't need to be seeing the 400 lb drunk in the torn up body suit any more. Sometimes there just isn't enough Ajax to wash your eyes out with, you know?

The bonus is to get home, I never have to see the interstate until I'm almost home––and that's the view coming down Elk Vale to the 'J.

Hopefully they have done some work to that road, I brought a few cars back that way for this years Fun Gun Shoot and it was a rough SOB until I got back to Pennington Co.

I spent a few years working in the motorcycle industry. I can tell you that the people of that industry are like the patrons of Sturgis year 'round. Ego's, attitudes and give a shititis abound.

It weren's so bad last year. They must've had the grader out right before the festivities started. I was able to do 60 in most places, that is until the fog settled in on Wed night last year, then I was doing 20 and running out of my headlights.

Haven't been up through there yet this year, I'll find out how bad it is this weekend.

Well, I got cut off by some schmuck for the first time this season. I don't know how the hell you pedal around and manage not to see a big-assed E-250 van coming at you going 65. I'm certain it won't be the last time.

I think I've seen that around, does it say "Free Candy" on the side and have the windows blacked out by any chance?

On a semi related side note, I helped load some drywall for a few Hells Angels at work yesterday. They were getting insulation and stuff also so I'm assuming they are fixing up their place in Sturgis before the rally starts. The 2 guys wearing the HA vests, one from Nevada and one from New Jersey, were the nicest, most respectful people that I helped all morning. Judging from the knives clipped to the front of their vests, not people you would want to mess with though.

From what I understand the Angels have their own camping area that is not open to the public. Years ago the Spoke was a know hang out for them during bike week.

If they choose to carry knivest, that's their prerogative. I could care less one way or the other what they carry around. If they keep to themselves and don't interrupt me or mine, they have my blessing to enjoy themselves here. Most of the schmucks I see aren't sporting colors and probably haven't ridden their bikes since they test drove it.

Hardy har har, there SeniorM4...

Well, working on the east side of the state in an emergency department, I can warn you to watch out, we have had a few nasty motorcycle accidents come through, and most of them started from pretty benign things. I have found that there is a reason why they call people who don't wear helmets riding motorcycle "organ donors". I can't imagine what it is like to work EMS/ED in the hills these couple of weeks.
Other than that, it is something I'd like to experience maybe once, but it seems like too many people and too much dick waving for me.

Seen a guy dump one on the on ramp at Exit 58 today, mid turn he just tipped over. Guy got up and set it back up and seemed to be fine. This is NOT the time for inexperanced riders to be out "acting the part".

It really is trailer week, more motorhomes with trailers then bikes with riders on the interstate, wait a couple more years and the Offical Sponcer of Sturgis will be the AARP.

I'm looking for maobama stickers on some of these setups so I can give 'em a nice mid finger welcome to SD.

Ye olde single finger salute was almost given this afternoon to a pair of morons riding their shit up Elk Vale. 20-30 mph for almost 15 miles. A lesser man would have put one in each of them as he passed, but, I'm a better man than that...Sometimes. Today just happened to be one my 'better' days.

Other than that, I'm happy to report that both Elk Vale and Alkalai Roads are both pretty smooth, as far as gravel roads go. Few washboards here and there going in, relatively smooth on the way home.

My first day at the Shoot was spent putting up a baffle on the shoot house because some d**khead decided he was going to let somebody put a camper on top of the hill behind the Shooting Complex in an attempt to shut the festivities down. Seems Ron Woodruff and this other landowner don't quite see eye to eye on the whole Buffalo Chip Shooting Complex hosting a MG shoot during the Rally thing. Only got about 30 or 40 folks through today due to the construction. Not bad, considering.

I know the family who are having a disagreement with the Chip, it seems there is a house located directly in line with where the firing line is set up to shoot ( over the hill ). Its not just a fight during the rally, they had been fighting against it from day one. All 2nd hand knowlege on that, but I do know that the family is PRO GUN, so its not a left wing thing that drives them to fight shooting complex. I have no dog or interest in their fight but one thing is for sure, finding a place to hold a safe event can be hard. I have shot with Bill before and I think his biggest concern is safty 1st with the MGs.

Got back, was there late fri, sat, and till about noon sun. Had some great rides. I was actually at sturgis for about 3 hours. Was too busy with rides outside of there. I know today it offically kicks off but it was still crowded. Met lots of nice people and got some great pics! Was at FTS and they were filming for season 2. More of a Harley fest than anything. Work sucks

We made the shoot work, only a handfull of morons couldn't take instruction and hit the baffle. Had to jump on a couple of shooters who didn't know the meaning of "Keep it between the cones". Otherwise, all was well. Except for the guy who wore the firing pin from the .500 S&W home in his ear. But he brought it back, so it ended ok for all involved.

I didn't see it happen, but after Wednesday's shooting, the .500 was having problems with the cylinder opening. I thought it was the loads being over pressure, being as the primers were all cratered out and and couple were pierced. It was so bad, we had to use the edge of the bench to bang the cylinder open, and then that took a good 2-3 minutes to do. Keep in mind, prior to this we had ZERO problems with the gun.

After talking to Bill's son, he esspained that a piece of the gun came off between the back of the cylinder and the frame (which I was told was part of the firing pin) and lodged in a guy's ear. (Which would essplain the funky primer strikes afterward.) Keep in mind, this particular model has the transfer-bar safety. To be honest, I didn't see this happen, nor did I get a good look at the guy who brought the piece back. I'm going strictly by what I was told after the fact.

The pistol is going back to S&W BTW, as this is the second year it's had problems. Last year, the rear site fell off. Fell O.F.F. It just fell of the damn gun. Can you believe that? Off.

Then, the firing pin comes apart and lodges in a guys ear. This gun's got bad ju-ju written all over it.

I'm not sure what loads he was using, but he said he downloaded them from last year. Had hard cast lead bullets, and I'm not sure of the powder, but after watching some rather large mammalian motorcycle enthusiasts try to muscle that monster around, no thanks. That and all the shit that blows out from around the back of the cylinder, you can have it.
