I will be spending a weekend with my GF in saginaw. If I pass my medic test we will have a celebratory dinner. I am looking for a nice place to eat dinner at under 25 a person. Not really interested in a chain like olive garden or texas roadhouse but a smaller place. Any Ideas are welcome.

I don't know my way around Saginaw, but there's a decent Japanese steakhouse on the east side of Midland.

Genji. Last time we were there, I think it was about $60 for the 2 of us.

+10 On Midland, they have a lot of great resturants here and it's only15 minutes from Saginaw. Villa D'lessandros come to mind as a nice place that is not a chain.

There is a Genji's on Bay Rd. in Saginaw too, sister to the one in Midland. The place is pretty good but get the filet instead of the regular steak when you order

Were you getting the Hibachi grill dinner? It is normal for them to seat people at the grill tables together whether they know each other or not.

Not normal for me. This is America. The land of "good fences make good neighbors". That's your table, this is mine. They can take that custom and shove it up their asses.

I get my own table with my own friends, or I don't go there. If I want to spend time with strangers I'll go to a bar and "mingle", or take up serial killing or something.

A big +1 on that one. And any sort of food is open for thought.

They have another room with separate tables.

You just don't get the grill entertainment.

Jakes at Court and Hamilton in old town Saginaw is a good higher end place. They are also locally owned, so thats a big plus in my book too.

They are a little hit or miss IMO. I've really good meals there and some so-so meals, its a 50/50 on what you get.

I thought of another one, Oscar and Joeys in Birch Run. They have a lot of wild game offerings. I used to be called Dixie Dave's, its the guy who calls in to Michigan Outdoors on the radio. I never ate there before the name change but the couple times I ate there it was great.

I have to agree, Jakes seems to have ups and downs. I havent been there in a while, we dont go out like we used to, and their menu was a little limited for a while, not sure if it has changed or not.

Oscar and Joeys, Thats not a bad choice either. Good grub. I dont care for them as much now, they used to have a wider selection of wild game.

I went to Oscar and Joeys with the wife tonight. They have a thing going on Sat. after 1800 where Dave will cook your food at your table. I had a steak and it was great, the same for the wife's Chicken Cordon Bleu. Turns out Dave lives right around the corner from me and is a great guy to talk to. I'll have to stop in there more often.
