Does the TC Area have any places to shoot i.e. similar to "The Pit" etc.?

There is an outdoor area near Chums Corners that I go to all the time. It's free, and there are a few different places to shoot. I don't know about the "pit", but this area is shooting into a large hill backstop. So, out and up a little, not down into a pit.

BeerSwimmer thanks a bunch. Where exactly is Chums Corner? How far is it from Acme?

Describing "The Pit" is easy. It has a "firing line" or firing area is about 30-40 yards with the maximum distance of the range being about 125-140 yards depending upon the angle of fire. The high banks of the area I'd estimate to be approximately 50-75 ft in vertical elevation possibly more. People bring all types of things to shoot i.e junk pit shooting with reactive targets whether by design ie pepper poppers or metal silouhettes or old TVs radios and quart oil jugs. Parking space is probably limited to about 10-12 cars near the firing line. The pit is situated on state property. J

Once you're that far north you should have your pick of gravel pits. I'd grab a county map from the local county road commission and see what you can find.

Hey, I remember you....i think.

Were you involved in the orange helicopter demonstration I came to see in the fall?

The place at chums corners is the local "pit". It's actually on hoosier valley rd, between vance and blair townhall roads. There are 3 or 4 range areas, depending on what you want to do. There are houses in sight, and school buses that drive by. The backstop is a large hill, but keep it low, there ARE 2-tracks up there. I'm about 3/4 mile away, and I can tell you it's very active....most of the time....but usually only a couple shooters at a time.

It's public land, and slightly "improved" as a gun range. It's not accepted as such by the DNR, but has been locally accepted for many many moons.

Have fun.

It's typically a "junk" pit, and most of us locals are truly disgusted by the shit pile that gets left there. I am involved with a local boy scout troop that does a yearly clean up of the site. The township pays for a dumpster.

I and many others would politely ask that you simply pick up your trash to help avoid having it shut down, I know it's been talked about.

There is a large burmed area the local DNR officer showed me a few years back. If you follow Bunker Hill rd. after it turns to dirt you should be able to find it easy enough.

It is legal to shoot in any state land as long as you have a target up and a good back stop.
We shoot in state all the time.
