Welcome to the site!

The lower receiver is the only part which has to go through a dealer, as it's the part which has the serial#, and as far as the ATF is concerned, is the actual firearm. All other parts are pretty much unregulated, and you can order them yourself and have them shipped directly to you.

Of course if you go this route of ordering it yourself, you'll need to check with your local gun dealer(s) to ask about their policies for transfers are, most will do it for you but some will charge an exorbitant fee to do so.

You might consider going to the MI hometown forum section at this site, as you'll get a lot more useful input from other members in this state about recommended stores in your area etc. If you're in SE MI, I'd suggest you check out Quest Arms in Port Huron, they specialize in AR stuff, and have have a lot of good deals on parts and accessories, and if you're not sure what you need or how to get it, they can get it for you.

Williams charges $45 for a ffl transfer. That's what I have been told.

Buy a stripped lower at the Birch Run gun show, save FFL fees, pick out the one you like and take it home that day. The Lansing show is coming up Feb 11-13.

I like to inspect an item before I buy it. Local gun shops can't compete with online store prices.

Found this while looking for their website for another thread. No experience with the uppers but the Mega lower I have is very nicely made..and they'll run you through assembling the whole thing.

Also, I've gotten some killer deals on the MGO (Michigan Gun Owners) Marketplace web board. Made lot's of sales there too. Person to person can just be straight cash deal, no FFL.

If you're just outside Flint, Williams Gunsight & Outfitters over in Davison, or Guns Galore down in Fenton have always served me well. Williams also has a decent range setup... both long gun and pistol. I've heard there's a place that's opened up since I moved from the area that has an indoor range, but I'm not sure what the name is, nor do I know if they are any good since I've never been there (though I'm sure there are other ARFCOMers who know the shop I'm referring to and know more about it).

AIM (board sponsor) in Ohio has lowers starting at $60 through $100. LINK AIM are good people

As for FFL transfer, don't pay much past $20-$25

Try this list of FFL dealers: FFLs

Only the lower is controlled. Everything else is up to you. Del-Ton (board sponsor) sells rifle kits for pretty cheap. You can order a full parts kit, just the complete upper, or all the parts separately straight to your door.

I think the one you are talking about is in burton, advanced range or something or other. I've been there twice and it's ok. Personally I stick to Williams for shooting. Nice range masters and fairly mellow environment. Everyone is pretty nice.

The Range in Burton is called Advanced Indoor Ranges. I will never go back there again.

As far as a lower, there's always Bullocks in Flint off of Ritchfield Rd. The main guy there lacks a personality, but they do great business. I have purchased from them a few times and was very satisfied. Whatever you do, Stay the hell away from the Gun Barn in Otisville. If you don't know exactly what something is worth, you will walk out of there with a firearm and having been raped. I have a buddy that went there twice before I got a chance to warn him. He was anally violated both times. I actually went up there and had to laugh at some of their outrageous prices. Just my experiences though, take it for what it's worth to ya.

Welcome to the site BTW.

I like bullocks. Never bought a gun but I love drooling over some of the safes.

Please do elaborate, I would be interested in knowing what he bought there and how much he got ripped off for, and some of the prices you saw when you went there to see their prices for yourself.

Hell, it might be worth posting in this thread:

If your looking for a cheap transfer I use Hot Shotz on Saginaw in Flint. He does transfers out of On Target Tax & Book Keeping. I've used him for the last 5 or 6 orders. He only charges one transfer fee whether its 1 or 5 lowers.
