Taylor Pistol Club 26th Annual PPC Match - 32+ Prize Guns - January 11-15
Come on out and shoot - there will be at least 32 guns given away through drawings and Lewis scoring system. For those of you unfamiliar with the Lewis system - anyone can win, you don't have to score well. The banquet is at Crystal Gardens on January 15 - extra meal tickets are $10 (food and beer included).
We have plenty of members with extra guns and rigs to borrow if you don't have a holster and 4+ mags. We had over 370 shooters last year - this is the second biggest PPC match in the nation.
The match is held out Taylor PD's indoor range with a fully automated target system. Takes less than an hour to shoot both the PPC and Service Pistol Match.
IM me with any questions:

This is just a walk-in, no membership match? Sounds fun. Whats the rule on Glock 34's in the service pistol part? are they legal?

Yep, walk-in match - no membership requirements. You could shoot the G34 for both PPC and Service Pistol... What you need is a holster, 4 mags, and mag pouch (use your jean pockets in a pinch). There are plenty of extra rigs if you want to borrow a purpose built PPC revolver. The course of fire for both matches is here:

Thanks, I have a nice S&W wheel gun for the PPC, I think I may have to come try this. The times are pretty liberal.
So you only have to shoot once right? not on every day listed?
Never been to one of these before, wouldn't mind trying it out.
EDIT: do i need to be a LEO to shoot?
Sounds intredasting. How much ammo would I need?
only once unless you want to shoot more
only one day unless you want to shoot more days
There are 2 shooting classes
PPC and Service, you can shoot both if you like, I do.
PPC is 60 rounds of ammo
Service is 42 rounds
READ THE FLIER!
P.S. They give away a shit ton of guns at this and the food at the dinner on Sunday is pretty darn good too.
Lot's of door prizes too.
I'll buy the first round of pitchers for any arfcom members at the banquet!

I have shot the match before and had fun. It still feels strange to walk into a Police station with a couple pistols and a bunch of ammo and not have anyone be concerned!

Well that's weird. No FMJ, or no jacket whatsoever?
I've always used FMJ...no problem
You won't get turned away if you show up to the match with jacketed ammo. We just don't shoot it much because:
A. It screws up our scrap prices when we clean out the traps
B. When you shoot 5-10k rounds of centerfire a year, it isn't economical
C. Semi-wadcutter target holes will get you better scores. (yes some manufacturers will jacket a semi-wadcutter, but most don't)
Mike Patrick of Michigan Ammo will sell you some match semi-wadcutter ammo for about the same price as White Box. His number is on the match flyer and has a very good reputation.
Or you can join the club and buy Zero Bullets at wholesale cost to roll your own.

9mm SWC?

You'll have a tough time finding them, but they are available. Plenty of plain lead 9mm RN and TC out there though. The main reason we don't shoot a lot of jacketed stuff is the cost.
I also shoot SWC whenever I can because not everyone brings scoring overlays with them to make sure I cut rings or not.
So bringing my own FMJ 45 ACP wouldn't be a problem then?
nope

TOUCHE!

90% I'm going. Probably will be solo for the dinner. Any chance to hang out with fellow ARFcoms?
I spoke with the match director last night, and he said we now have 40 prize guns!
Is it bad that I luaghed when I googled the address and it put the marker directly ontop of the taylor animal shelter?
Oh and this is a bump.

It is ironically funny until you throw trash into the same dumpster the animal shelter uses in August... The range does share the building with them (obviously divided and sound proofed).

I can only imagine the smell.
Just an FYI, we added a really nice AMSEC safe to the prizes this year - I didn't write down the model number, but when I saw it, I was surprised someone donated something that nice. It is bigger than my 3627 Sturdy Safe.
Range Report
I've never done any kind of competitive shooting before and decided to try this match out for my first time. Words really can't describe how much fun I had! The Taylor Pistol Club members immediately made me feel comfortable and gave me all sorts of help through each stage and for that I say Thank You! I'm hooked for sure.

Glad to hear this. I'm going Friday.
Well, I shot.......myself in the foot! Figuratively of course. Not my best showing, but I still had fun. Having never done it before, not being a revolver shooter, and not having the right equipment made me look a little silly. But I had fun, and with the scoring system the way it is set up, I could still win something. On the other hand, when I shot the service pistol course of fire I redeemed myself a little. 411-15X out of 420. I will be back, and the wife and I are looking forward to the dinner on Sunday. Like a previous poster wrote, the people were all great and treated me like family.
I went tonight. This was my first time at a PPC match. Everybody was very helpful and made me feel welcome, I will be going to the banquet sunday night.
Anyone know if there will be an ARFcom table? I'm looking for the free beer! Well that and good company!
If anybody wants a DD I will not be drinking tonight. I have a cold/sinus infection/plague. Booze and mucinex doesn't mix
Super bummed, I didn't make it to the banquet. My son was spewing from both ends Saturday, and passed it on to my wife and I yesterday. Haven't had the flu that bad in a long time - every muscle in my body hurt all night long.
Hope you guys had a good time - we'll see ya's next year.
BTW - if you want to shoot more PPC matches through the winter - check out the Michigan Police Combat Pistol Association website. I think there are 6 decent matches through the winter - not as big as Taylor, but still fun.
