If the wolves haven't eaten the one that did this, I'll be looking for him along the Mineral River.

Same place a few hours later.

Define "Up North" ...

Hell in Clinton County we have been feeding the deer all year long. You you want a deer just drive around at night and hit one or shoot off your deck. No need to go up north here.

Those pics are from Ontonagon county, 2010. I'm pretty sure opening day was mild and by 3rd day we had snow.

Matthew, the rut is underway. I've been called out each night this week & have had to break or dodge neck swollen bucks on the move. I've seen some damn nice racks too. I have the company truck sighted in, hopefully a real nice one will 'jump' in the way.

M-61 & 11 mile Rd area, Estey & Hope, along with the Hale area look to have a lot of deer around this year.

I haven't read anything about how a virus has devastated the deer herd around Cass County in SW Michigan. Apparently, all this summer and fall, people were finding large numbers of dead deer around water-40-50 at a time, in places like golf courses, and on farms. I was down at my mothers place near Dowagiac, where she has 65 acres. All the trails that used to be heavily traveled by deer have NO tracks on them anymore, and she has not seen any since the spring. have other places been hit this hard?

I am!
Heading up to Missaukee County with the trusty M1A on the 14th. I only have a couple days off, but in my experience those first couple days can see the most action, depending on pressure from other hunters.

I bought a ladder stand at Jay's on the way up to Lake City, and we put it up on Sun afternoon. I sat there Sun night w/ my cross-bow and got rained on, however I watched 3 doe and a spike buck walk w/in 5 yards of me, and saw two other doe a bit further from me. Didn't shoot though, as I thought they all looked a bit small.

Monday morning and night I sat in that damn stand and didn't see jack shit.

This morning in a different blind, w/ my brother-in-law and father-in-law spread out over 40 acres and there is NO movement and not many shots around me. I left the blind about 11:30 this morning to come to the library to get a bit of work done. I'll be in the ladder stand by 3, and will keep my fingers crossed.

Where's the bang-head smiley?? I'm killing myself for not taking one of the does that walked by on Sun night.

Hope you all are having more luck than me! If its not a fawn, its getting shot tonight or tomorrow morning before I need to come home.

I hunted public land in Clinton County on opening day. I shot what i thought was a doe. ended up being a button buck. Never saw another deer in the woods. Then saw 12 does in peoples yards and combined fields on the short drive back to my dad's place.

Biggest surprise today was I never saw another hunter. Usually the state land i hunt is crowded. lots of empty tree stands though. They must have hit it hard during (cross)Bow season.

Gonna give it another try on Wednesday.

My father-in-law ended up getting a doe on Wednesday morning. He was over-due to use a tag, as he hasn't been successful in a few years. Bro-in-law and I didn't see anything through the morning. In the evening they went to the farm my Mother-in-law grew up on in Marion, and didn't see anything until past dark. This morning my BIL was sick and stayed in bed, FIL didn't see anything.

No luck here. I had plenty of small does come in, no bucks.

It wasn't a total bust though, I was able to take a first time hunter out with me. It was exciting to have deer so close knowing a buck might show up, even though we didn't take any of them.

I've got junior in the blind with me right now. We've only had one doe so far this morning but I know the deer are around since this is where I took an eight point three weeks ago. Im hoping to to watch junior take his first shot this weekend.

I'm home now, sat there 4 days and saw nothing. I was changing out the card on one of my cameras just before I left and had some deer walk up on me, blow and run. So now they are moving again.

I hunted in the Pigeon River forest didn't see any deer. I talked to several other hunters and they didn't see anything either. On opening morning I heard just a few gun shots, usually it sounds like a war zone up there on opening day.
I've hunted in the same area for many years and had good luck, never have I seen no deer in that location.
I live in Clinton Twp. around the 16 Mile and Harper area and I see more deer here than up north and yes I've seen several big bucks running around as well.
I sit in my living room while eating dinner and I can look across the street in the neighbors backyard appx. 100yds. away and see as many as 15 deer at one time.

I think the DNR is giving misleading info on the deer herd to promote increase license sales........just my thoughts......

Well i've heard plenty of people shoot their deer not even 5 minutes into season. The herd is being thinned out though :( I just hope I can get one come next weekend

I was up at Deer Camp on Drummond Island from the 13th through the 19th.

I shot a 5 point buck at 11:30am on the 15th. The only deer I saw, and I feel lucky!
