Hello TN HTF-

I'll be coming down to Nashville on Wed and staying through Friday night. Purpose is to visit Vanderbilt Law school. However, I have a bunch of time open on Thursday and looking for suggestions for things to see/do and places to eat.

I'll be with my SO and Thursday is also our 3rd anniversary, so I'd like to take her someplace nice for dinner (but under $75/person if possible). Any suggestions?

thx!

Here are a few things to see:
Frist Center
Ryman Auditorium
Country Music Hall of Fame
Parthenon

Here are a few nice places to eat and near Vanderbilt's campus:
Maggianos
Flemings - Dang, the Spring Deal they have going on right now doesn't sound too bad.
Park Cafe

Good stuff, enjoy your visit at Vandy law, let me know if you have any questions about the school.

For non-chain restaurants good for an anniversary and fairly close to Vandy, consider the following:

Cafe Nonna (best Italian)
Kayne Prime (might blow the budget, but good steaks)
Virago (trendy sushi and such)
Boundry (haven't been in a few years, but pretty good)
Tavern is also decent, but more kin to a sports bar/pub.
If you want fancy, expensive drinks first, go to Patterson House.

If you want to get away from that part of town for an anniversary dinner consider City House (Germantown) or Margots (East Nashville).

thanks for the suggestions!

Vandy law school visit is actually for the SO; I'm heading towards a less glamorous PhD program in St Louis

I'm going to be spending some time in Nashville over the next month and would really like some local restaurant recommendations, particularly a BBQ place. Not really interested in chains.

Thanks!

Hog Heaven. It's at the front corner of Centennial Park, behind the McDonald's on West End (all in the
Vanderbilt area).

It's all good, but my favorite is the pulled smoked turkey & white sauce. Excellent!

We really don't have the greatest of BBQ places but here are a few I go to.

Hog Heaven
Rooster's
Judge Bean's

It wasn't listed but just made reservations at Maggiano's. Let me know if this isn't the right place! We are staying about a mile away at Indigo so it's close enough to walk.

maggianos is a pretty boring chain italian restaurant...

went to the watermark yesterday for our anniversary, and it was a really good/classy experience.

Skip Rooster's, head over to The Vinegar Room. It's the exact same menu, but the food is better.

Eh, we may just wing it then, I am really looking for something we can walk to so we don't have to drive.

It's not bad, just not great. Indigo is a great place to stay, though.

I'll be heading down to the Opryland Hotel next month for a work-related class. I lived in Nashville for year back around '94 while I was going to technical school.

I'm anxious to see the Hotel has changed since then, I know the rest of the city has changed a lot. The Predator's dome was a hole in the ground when I was there last, Michael Jordan was causing tourist traffic-jams while playing baseball for the Express, and the football stadium wasn't even started yet.

Any suggestions for decent food relatively close to Opryland, that won't cost an arm and a leg? I remember Cock of The Walk being highly recommended while I was down there, but I'm not even sure if it's still open?

Yep...Cock of the Walk is still open...but I don't see how.

Be sure to try out the Scoreboard. It's a sports bar with great food.

It's located across from the hotel's main gate behind the cracker barrel.

None of the Food inside the Opryland Resort is cheap. At least none of the restaurants we found. The place is nice and huge with plenty to do. Not really a local so I am still looking for good restaurants too.
