I'm looking for some new areas to go shooting, the closer to SLC the better. I know of three areas, and they are all about 1hr from SLC: you can go to the BLM land by Utah Lake or Stansbury Island, or you can go to the National forest out past Park City. I would love for the opportunity to go shooting more often, but 2hrs of driving (round trip) makes it less feasible. I'm not interested in going to the ranges, as I'm interested in practicing drills (largely for fun).
I'm a responsible shooter, I always clean up after myself and try to clean up messes that others leave behind. I don't shoot trash or any targets that leave a mess, and I collect my brass.
If anyone knows of any other good locations, especially close to SLC, possibly something they don't share publicly (PM me?), or could throw any suggestions out, I would be much obliged!

Not going to happen. All you have is West Desert, out pass park city and Lone Rock area
I posted this in the other thread......my favorite place to shoot when I lived there. Use to take me about 40 minutes from Sandy.
Here ya go!
I used to shoot here all the time. Can shoot as far as the eye can see. Easy to get to as well. Early Sunday morning youll have the place all to yourself.

Thanks MovinMan. I actually found your post previously. I'm planning on checking out this spot for some long range shooting with the M14, but it's about 1.5 hours from me so I'll probably end up going to Utah Lake more often.
Anyone know if it is possible to shoot anywhere in the Oquirrh Mountain range? The more North the better :)

That is pretty much all private.
Kennecott owns damn near the whole mountain. Pretty much any place outside an organized shooting range is illegal in Salt Lake county, from what I understand.
