Heading to Utah, what toys are legal???
Hello,
It looks like I will be heading to Utah for my next work project. Need to find out what toys from Texas are legal in your fine state.
I take it normal handguns are OK (1911 and buckmark 22LR w/threaded barrel)?
Ruger 10/22 with threaded barrel?
Full function AR15 type weapons?
Cans (legal form 4'ed on a trust)?
SBR (legal form 1 also on the trust & I will get the "Mother may I" letter from the BATFE)?
Reloading items? brass, prower ect
I'm sure I'm good to go with all these items in Utah, but I just spent a year in Massoftwoshits and every item I listed will land you jail time there so I want to make sure?
Thanks
Rudy
All items listed are legal to own in Utah.
We have more lax gun laws here than you do in TX. We can open carry without needing a license. The only caveat to that is there can't be a round in the chamber unless you have a CCW. And your TX CCW permit will work just fine here.
Welcome to the free world.
Freedom you have got to love it

Well I will be packing up the Jeep Thur and heading out Friday morning.
The project will have me in Logan . . . . . .Not alot of hotel options there

There are a few chains and some mom&pop type motels in and around Logan. Haven't been up that way in a few years, but it's a nice area. There was a lot of growth in that area over the last decade.
There's gun stuff that's illegal here?

Only if you're "restricted". lol
How does one get UT to recognize a Michigan CCW? We recognize UT's but they aren't recipicating. I hate one sided relationships

As far as I'm aware, the only 3 states we don't recognize yet are Wisconsin, Vermont, and Illinois. Wisconsin just passed their right to carry laws, but it's not in effect yet, and Illinois doesn't issue permits. So that leaves only Vermont. They're the only state that currently issues permits that Utah doesn't recognize. At least according to
this. If you click on the "state permits that Utah honors" tab, it shows Michigan in blue, meaning we recognize it.
ETA: It looks like Michigan only recognizes Utah residential permits, which is awesome. I'm of the opinion that if you don't live here, you shouldn't be able to get one of our permits. You don't even have to ever come to Utah to get a permit. I'm not a big fan of that rule. My opinion might change if I ever move to a state whose permit isn't as widely accepted as Utah's. lol
The only firearms regulations in Utah are Federal regulations.

Uh - What?
How about
WRONG.
I guess that is why this is called the '
Error-net'...
Take a gander (look) here and see if this answers your specific Utah STATE level questions about Utah firearms laws: http://utahshootingsports.com/utahlaws.htm
There are PLENTY of Utah STATE laws as well as Utah STATE REGULATIONS on the books in regards to firearms.
Another bonus about Utah is getting to call up BCI and ask them to check a firearms serial number (make, model & caliber) to see if it has a criminal 'record' attached to it (stolen, etc).
What project are you working on in Logan? I live in Logan.
While your'e in town try out Logan's Heroes (good local sandwich shop) and get a Swanky Frank. Best cheapish food in town IMO.

Thank you for the link. I stand corrected. I now realize that after moving here from California, it just seemed to me that Utah only enforced Federal regulations in comparison with the Californa regulations. Anyway, I am so glad I am here and not there.

FREEWAY - I apologize for my tone in my previous post. After re-reading it - I am embarrassed for my comments. I am sorry.
Welcome to Utah. I am a transplant here as well. I stayed here in 2003 after medically retiring from the Army - went overseas for a couple years then moved back here & bought a home in 2009.
THERE ARE FAR WORSE STATES TO LIVE IN THAN UTAH!

I always thought that Utah recognizes all ccw's even though we don't have reciprocity with them unless of course that state doesn't issue permits, otherwise we wouldn't recognize states like California who don't recognize any ccw's but theirs.
I believe Utah recognizes any valid CCW permit issued by another state. I thought we didn't recognize ones from IL, WI and VT because they don't exist.

Exactly correct. Those states permits are not recognized here since the permits do not exist. Although, didn't WI get concealed carry this year?
A permit from any State or County is valid here in Utah, below is the applicable law.
76-10-523. Persons exempt from weapons laws.
(1) This part and Title 53, Chapter 5, Part 7, Concealed Weapon Act, do not apply to any of the following:
(a) a United States marshal;
(b) a federal official required to carry a firearm;
(c) a peace officer of this or any other jurisdiction;
(d) a law enforcement official as defined and qualified under Section 53-5-711;
(e) a judge as defined and qualified under Section 53-5-711;
(f) a common carrier while engaged in the regular and ordinary transport of firearms as merchandise; or
(g) a nonresident traveling in or through the state, provided that any firearm is:
(i) unloaded; and
(ii) securely encased as defined in Section 76-10-501.
(2) The provisions of Subsections 76-10-504(1) and (2), and Section 76-10-505 do not apply to any person to whom a permit to carry a concealed firearm has been issued:
(a) pursuant to Section 53-5-704; or
(b) by another state or county.

I knew WI and IL didn't have permits, but I thought that VT does issue. I could be wrong. WI did just pass the law to start issuing permits, but it's not in effect yet, so WI permits still don't exist.
ETA: Looks like VT is a "Constitutional Carry" state, so they don't issue permits because they're not needed. Who knew, a New England state that doesn't have their heads up their ass when it comes to firearms laws.

VT, NH and ME are good states, and tend to respect your rights. MA on the other hand makes CA look like a good state. Having a spent piece of brass is jail time with out a permit in MA.

I know. I just like unfair generalizations.
