My father in law in Oregon passed away and left me several firearms in his will.

In know in general it's legal to ship firearms to yourself, would this be sideways of any Oregon laws?

If I need to use a FFL to do this can anyone recommend someone in the Portland / Milwaukie Oregon area?

Northwest Armory may be able to help with the transfer, they are in the Portland/Milwaukie area. If I remember correctly, in Oregon, I believe there is no requirement to use an FFL for a private transfer. Considering your residency, I would suspect there's more red tape at your end.

What Vulcanator said... Your real question is what are the laws for incoming firearms in Illinois. I have had no problems shipping guns myself without an FFL to other states (FedEx, UPS and USPS).

Are you coming out here to Oregon for any of the shipping? It may be more cost effective to bring those back as checked luggage if you are already making the trip. Handguns need to be shipped overnight via UPS/FedEx, which can get pretty costly if there are multiple pistols. Otherwise, you can bring 50lbs worth of firearms back in checked luggage.

You may want to look up Illinois laws on what you do if you move into the state with firearms. If registration is required, you are probably going to need an FFL in the middle.

Most FFL's are happy to accept shipments from individuals, but not all of them. They'd probly want a copy of the Oregon Driver's License from whoever sent it. If you had your mom send them to you in IL (through an FFL) that seems like it'd work fine. You'd just need to check with your local FFL near you in IL to make sure they accept from individuals.. If you are doing a change of ownership from your father to yourself across state lines, I believe you'd need an FFL, but honestly I'm not sure.

Oregon is fine... there is no law stopping you from sending firearms OUT of the state. Especially if they are yours. :)

Illinois is a pain in the ass... w/ the FOID card and all that. Not sure if they are cool with you sending yourself firearms. I'm sure you're more up to speed on that end of the law since you live there.
