I'm looking to get a detroit locker, or truetrac installed in the rear forsure, and likely the front of my 97 ford f350 powerstroke. I was going to try it myself, but I don't want to get over my head. Anyone here familiar with this process and can teach me how? I live out in EA OR, but I would be willing to drive to someones house if we could get it done.

Anyone just let me know.

I would talk to Sunnysideauto, he can probably set you up or recommend someone to set up your diffs for you.

I thought this thread was going in a different direction.

Thats the thing I don't want to pay someone to do it I would rather them get me lined out and then able to ask questions, and pay them for the advising if needed be. I just want to learn more meching stuff and don't really have anyone that can teach me the type I want to learn. I don't reckon its too hard in that I pull out the carrier, but I'm worried about it not being setup correctly backlash and all that stuff.

Lol I figured, but then I knew that typical gearheads would maybe know what I mean.

I set up a differential in college, which was 26 years ago or so. Don't remember much on that, I mainly specialized in performance engines, and worked the service and parts counters. Someone will jump on here sooner or later and offer up some help! Good luck with your project.

If it was a project I'd just start ripping and tearing. Its actually for a 97 powerstroke daily driver. But yeah I guess it is also a project in of itself. Appreciate it bud. Not a ford parts guy any chance are you?

It's been about 6 years since I've done a rear end, but we ended up doing a Detroit into a 9" rear.

Once we had all the parts, it only took two days for us to go from pulling it out to putting it back in (mostly because we were double checking everything).

It's not hard, but the "Did I do it right?" aspect really chews at you until you roll it down the road.

Yeah that is what will get me.I don't want my ignorance/lack of comprehension to get me. I've asked around on forums, but have heard stuff about setting backlash. Just want to see what tools were necessary before I try and do it. According to youtube videos it isn't all that hard. Especially with ff axles, I just pull the axle out the side of my rim, pull cclamps, rotate out spider gears and pinion hear and then back together.

This thread is no where near as interesting as I thought it would be. I was thinking about "the other LSD".
