After a 17 year hiatus looking to move back to the Great State of Oregon
Was raised in OR for most of my life prior to joining the US Navy, lived all over the Willamette Valley from Portland to Eugene.
Company I currently work for is making to many changes, no family in CO, all our family is in OR and NV.
From my basic job search it looks like OR is doing ok job wise.
Would like to stay east of I-5, closer to the Cascades. Preferably a rural location, old farmhouse, but need HS internets.
I am a Windows/VMware systems engineer on current technology 2008r2, ESXi/vCenter 5, also familiar with 2000/2003/2008 and ESX 3/4.1 and ESXi 4.1
Just finished an ESX/ESXI 4.1 upgrade to ESXi 5, and am currently finishing a data center conversion P2V on 70 servers, plus moving them from Dallas to N. CO.
Much more than this, anyway I am looking for suggestions, recommendations, etc........
I do not mind a commute.
Thanks!
Dave
Maybe try Nike? I know the guys who work there, no matter what they're doing, all seem to like it a lot. I have a real good buddy who works there in some type of web design/systems admin whatever position and really likes it for the most part. (I drive a truck for a living, so don't know anything about all that electronical stuff...

)
We do have quite a bit of high tech sprouting all over the place and it seems to be growing, especially Intel and its suppliers out on the west side.
Yeah, might want to try Benton (Corvallis) or Washington Counties (Beaverton/Hillsboro) first. There are several high-tech and/or other healthy companies in each county, and many of them are hiring. Both of these counties are also ranked #1 and #2 in Oregon right now in terms of employment rates.
The Columbia River Gorge area has also been sprouting several tech companies in recent years. That's the type of area that is wonderful to live in if you can find a decent-paying job. Sagetech and Google both have several job openings right now that sound right up your ally. (Google is THE #1 ranked employer in all of America! Sweet jobs if you can get 'em.) You can find other tech jobs too by looking at The Gorge Technology Alliance's
jobs page.
Best of luck.
Thanks for the info guys!
Google's second largest campus is in The Dalles
InSitu (subsidiary of Boeing, makes surveillance drones) is in the western Gorge (Hood River, White Salmon/Bingen)
What Eyegun said.
Let us know when you get settled to town!
Wife was looking and said the state income tax rate is 11%, with few deductions?
Any info?

It's (somewhat) offset by no sales tax.

True, I actually found on the Tax Foundations web site a tax comparison PDF that showed 9% for below $125k which would be me
