Any Oregon residents here need an easy and legal way to CCW in Nevada?

I just moved to Oregon but vacation in Nevada often. The permit process for Nevada is a major PINA and you have to qualify with certain handguns you want to carry, and are limited to only those...

However... as of July 1, 2011 Nevada will now recognize Arizona CCW permits. Nevada treats non resident and resident CCW permits the same.

You can get an Arizona permit through the mail in 3 or 4 days. You send them an email, and they mail you a CCW packet right out. You will need to make a copy, front and back, of your Oregon CCW permit, get your finger prints done on the supplied card, and mail everything back. In a week you should now have your AZ permit which will allow you to carry in Nevada!

No, you will need to get an AZ permit. Nevada does not recognize a Utah permit...

Well of course, that makes sense...

+1

And Oregon doesn't recognize Washington or vice versa. Washington will honor Utah though, but Oregon doesn't. Makes perfect sense

Thanks!

I sent my packet back to AZ DPS this afternoon on 6/15. We'll see how long it takes... hoping for less than a week if the accounts I've been reading online are accurate.

They're pretty good, I had mine back in under a week. 'Course I lived in phoenix at the time, so there was no waiting for the mail.

Are Oregon ccw permits specific to a certain handgun? In Nevada as of 7/1/11, if you qualify with a auto loader you can carry any auto loader with your permit. I got my first ccw permit in Columbia county back in the 70's.

Nope, carry whatever handgun you want.

I love AZ though, its a CCW, not CHL. If you can hide the M14, then by all means, carry it.

Do you know of an Oregon law which would prevent this?

The way I read the instructions from Arizona, it could take from "2 weeks to 2 months." So, waiting is likely in order ....

I've heard of people getting it in as little as 4 days. I'm going to Reno August 4th... sure hope I have it by then!

Read the face of your permit. If it says "Concealed firearm" you should be OK. If it says "concealed handgun" you can't carry a concealed M14. I'm pretty sure that it isn't a "concealed weapon" as that would include bladed weapons, and many other fearsome devices (sarcasm).

The law is what matters not the title of the license.

166.260 Persons not affected by ORS 166.250. (1) ORS 166.250 does not apply to or affect:

(a) Sheriffs, constables, marshals, parole and probation officers, police officers, whether active or honorably retired, or other duly appointed peace officers.

(b) Any person summoned by any such officer to assist in making arrests or preserving the peace, while said person so summoned is actually engaged in assisting the officer.

(c) The possession or transportation by any merchant of unloaded firearms as merchandise.

(d) Active or reserve members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard or Marine Corps of the United States, or of the National Guard, when on duty.

(e) Organizations which are by law authorized to purchase or receive weapons described in ORS 166.250 from the United States, or from this state.

(f) Duly authorized military or civil organizations while parading, or the members thereof when going to and from the places of meeting of their organization.

(g) A corrections officer while transporting or accompanying an individual convicted of or arrested for an offense and confined in a place of incarceration or detention while outside the confines of the place of incarceration or detention.

(h) A person who is licensed under ORS 166.291 and 166.292 to carry a concealed handgun.

(2) It is an affirmative defense to a charge of violating ORS 166.250 (1)(c)(C) that the person has been granted relief from the disability under ORS 166.274.

(3) Except for persons who are otherwise prohibited from possessing a firearm under ORS 166.250 (1)(c) or 166.270, ORS 166.250 does not apply to or affect:

(a) Members of any club or organization, for the purpose of practicing shooting at targets upon the established target ranges, whether public or private, while such members are using any of the firearms referred to in ORS 166.250 upon such target ranges, or while going to and from such ranges.

(b) Licensed hunters or fishermen while engaged in hunting or fishing, or while going to or returning from a hunting or fishing expedition.

(4) The exceptions listed in subsection (1)(b) to (h) of this section constitute affirmative defenses to a charge of violating ORS 166.250. [Amended by 1977 c.207 §1; 1991 c.67 §36; 1993 c.735 §1; 1995 c.670 §2; 1999 c.1040 §3; 2009 c.316 §2; 2009 c.499 §4]

That does not say "(1) the handgun portions of ORS 166.250 does not apply to or affect:" Other fearsome devices would fall under 166.240. An M14 would fall under 166.250. There is clearly an exemption to 166.250 for concealed handgun license holders.
