 Safir .410 AR upper

Buddy of mine bought one of these from Dixie Ammo Dump and we shot it at our recent shoot in Tennessee. He bought the Compact model. http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2009/07/06/safir-arms-t-14-410-ar-15-uppers-now-available/

He installed it on his Armalite lower and we blasted away with an assortment of .410 2.5" shells from Wal Mart; shot, buck and slugs. He topped it with an Eotech.

Ran flawlessly and was a hoot to shoot. We didn't have any kind of aerial targets to shoot at, but had fun with it nonetheless.

What type of choke comes built in on the barrels? Is it open or modified?

I have looked at these a few times, but I had heard some skepticism from some gun stores on reliability. I still may get one someday. They look bad ass!

Id probably be more incline to purchase one if it wasnt something being pimped by a dealer.

We've sold a few complete guns and the reviews have be mixed.

Some people have been impressed while others guns have been sent back to the MFG because they were faulty out of the box.

They are impressive if you can work out the bugs.

Mostly FTF's and FTE's.

I sent a customers gun back as well as couple of new guns I had in inventory for the "upgrades".

In about 12 weeks these guns were basically replaced including the receiver with a duplicate SN. I think the bbls were the only thing they didn't replace for the upgrade according to the work order supplied with the guns when returned. The origional receivers were stamped "made in Turkey" while the replcement receivers appear to have been made in Rochester NY since Turkey is no where to be found on them.

You talking to me, Outsyd? If you are, ya need to get your facts straight before you go shootin' off your shit cannon.

I am not a dealer. I don't have an FFL. I don't work for a dealer. I'm a full-time Fed who owns a shooting school on the side. My shooting school does not have an FFL and sells absolutely no products.

Dixie Ammo Dump is owned by a good friend of mine, however. I have never made a dime off of any sales that go through that store. This was the only Safir upper he had in stock, so anyone interested needs to find one somewhere else. DAD didn't make the Safir upper. I had good stuff to say about a product that you should be able to get from your local, favorite gun store, or directly from the importer itself. I fail to see how that is "pimping" a particular store. DAD carries SIG handguns as well. Am I not allowed to endorse those either?

I see lots of members here recommend a lot of different gun stores in the metro area. How many of those members have friends that work at these stores? If I frequent a gun store for a length of time, I will usually end up making friends with 1 or more of the employees and/or owner before it's over and done with.

Dixie Ammo Dump has good stuff, good prices, and good folks work there, or I wouldn't recommend them when I do. If you have a favorite store closer to you, then by all means use it. I'm sure that no one else here has their panties in a wad when I recommend a gun store that they might not have visited yet. Heaven forbid they should go there, find something they like, and get a good deal on it!

I never have and never will "pimp" something for monetary gain. If I back something, it's cuz I have used it myself and it works. If the Safir upper was a POS, I would have put a post in here letting y'all know that it's a POS and I wouldn't buy one. The one my buddy bought works fine after about 150 rounds, YMMV. Firearms, tactics, and training are my life. It's what I've been doing non-stop since I was 18 years old. As a Marine Scout/Sniper, metro ATL SWAT, and Fed, I have had the opportunity to train with lots of different folks and play with beaucoups gear. If I endorse something, it's cuz it's worked for me.

What's your background? I just wanted to know what qualifies you to make the opinions that you are oh so fond of handing out. I'm starting to think that GON made the right decision about you.

You've got a habit of running your suck about stuff that you have absolutely no idea about, or are just plain wrong. Like the thread I corrected you on in another site about Lon Horiuchi being a rep for HS Precision. That was complete and utter shit. After I proved it, you didn't even have the grace to retract your statement.

Put down the donuts and the step away from the keyboard. Gets your facts straight and out of my business.

Sniper,

I spoke with you earlier this year about a training session for a friend and myself. Now that it's cooled off I'd like to get serious about it and get together with you.

treedawg, this is the perfect time of the year for it. Temp is great and the wind is picking up; makes for a great training environment. IM or email me with the time period that you would like to do it and I'll check my schedule for availability.

It's interesting that you say that the original receivers said "Made In Turkey" and the replacement receivers did not. The upper that my buddy bought did not have a marking on it anywhere, not even a single letter. Maybe they fixed any early problems they might have had.

I gotta admit that the fit and finish was not up to par with any of the decent AR manufacturer's that I usually deal with, but it ran perfectly for us.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Hey Devil Dog, that was pretty good, he didn't even have the cohones to make a retort, oh wait, what can he say to that. Not a thing. He needs to get back suckling on momas tit, cause real life might just be an eye opener. Wonder what planet he's from anyway.

Guys, I have known cmshoot for yrs, I have trained with him for yrs. He is the genuine article. I just can't believe that there are still people in this world who constantly run their suck and their brain housing group is offline. All that chatter and not a bit of sense.

For future reference, maybe you should do a background check before you run your cock holster. It will get you a little farther in life and might add a few points on your IQ level stuck in the box or livin in your own wonderland or whatever your name is.

CovertChannels, in all the drama I missed your post. I don't know what the choke is on the upper. We didn't try to pattern it and I didn't measure it. When I get a chance, I'll call my buddy (he lives in Illinois) and have him mic it.

It's going to be difficult to mic it because it's fitted with a flash hider.

I don't have time to dig through the owners manual and I'm not sure if it tells you the bore.

That would be cool, but I don't think you could get one in a magazine that would fit in the mag well of a .223 AR platform. A .308 AR platform, however...........

Isn't the "compact" one the exact same (20") barrel length as the non-compact one? All that's compact is the handguards. I like the idea, but the compact one looks weird to me with that massively long barrel. To each his own, of course, so some people may prefer short handguards and a long barrel.

Did AIM Surplus or anyone else ever get any more mags for them in?
http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=2&f=217&t=176633

I read quite a few reviews and determined "Safir" does not mean quality. I'm proud to hear at least some of them work great. I like the AR shotgun idea a lot.
cmshoot  [Team Member]
10/24/2009 1:06:27 PM
Yep, barrel length is the same, it's just the handguards and relocated front sight that are different.

Hopefully, with the most recent models they have the bugs worked out and they'll work. This is the only one I have ever seen, let alone shot, so I'm by no means the litmus test for this system. I can recommend the most recent models, with no markings on the upper, cuz that's the one I've shot.

Supposedly, the 13 or 14 round magazines (can't remember exactly what they are) are now available. We only had the 5-rounder that came with the upper, but my buddy ordered several of the higher capacity models and was told they were enroute.

cmshoot - good to see another Marine here! In the same boat as you. Don't have my own buisness, but am head instructor here for my agency - also Fed full time.

Will shoot you an IM sometime.

opens it up for 12 even..... I really like the rifle/shotguns. I have always wanted a tromix.... just a fun thing to have. Too many comp guns going together or training with right now to have any "just for fun" time anymore.... But when you set goals, you have to give to achieve. Already met one this year.

A 12Ga on a .308 POF lower with a 25, or 30 round drum mag, would be one bad-a$$ weapon, .

Here's a link to a quick range report my buddy did on his Safir Arms .410 upper. He doesn't work for Dixie Ammo Dump, either. As a matter of fact, he's a Yankee from Illinois.

I haven't dealt with DAD in ages, but when I did about 6 years ago, what I got wasn't what I was promised...I called expecting to have issues and it was dealt with instantly and to my immediate satisfaction.

First rate business.

Back on topic, I have a saiga...nuff said!

But I was flirting some time ago with making a 12ga FAL. It's a sickness, I admit it.
